A penny for your thoughts TVSA community....Why is it that well enough is never good enough...I mean you find that many peeps have a good man, home, job, and car etc. BUT we are always running after the newest and the greatest thing...be it a man, a car, a house? We just can leave well enough alone... I’m not talking here about not having ambition and goals in life, no... that is very important..We’ll never progress as a nation if we don’t set high goals for ourselves and go out each day to achieve them....
I’m talking here about a phenomenon that I’m sure is innately human: “Keeping up with the Jones syndrome” or “The Grass is greener on the other side sickness”... Let me break it down:
Here’s the Scenario:
You dating a guy for almost 3 years and he’s a 90% fit (hey no-one’s perfect). He’s good for you, treats you well, stable, easy going and wedding bells are sounding off somewhere in the far distance (they aren’t very close but you can definitely hear them)....
Then comes along a man (call him man2), just as, handsome, intelligent, sweet, charming and loaded with potential as your current man is but slightly different and intriguing in a way (since as ALL women will testify no two men are alike..right???) Anyway he’s definitely date-able and marriage material too and you interact with ma 2 now and then in a social or work environment...He’s single...He flirts...You flirt back... (a little attention never hurt nobody...right?) You start wondering what it would be like to date him...but hey you got a good man on your hands so why the hell are you even contemplating dating another man??? You smile (a big GOOFY smile)at the thought of man2 and what he said yesterday (how could you??? you should be shot right???) Now it ends up in a place where you cannot go beyond flirting (you are a taken woman and DAMN you have your pride so don’t give man2 props that might just drive his ego overboard right???)
So you can’t go beyond the flirting but at the same time you can’t get man2 off your mind, he’s infiltrated your dreams (like a bad spy) and you can’t stop wondering “what if” ...you have a clear case of the “grass is always greener on the other side” illness....What now??? Where to from here???
Is there any medicine for this lost (and seemingly sickly) woman??? Any diagnosis & prescriptions welcome!!!!
