Hay Cape Town folk cant act!

What do the following shows have in common: Shooting Stars (e.tv Mondays at 9pm), Known Gods (SABC3 Thursdays at 8.31pm, Interrogation Room (SABC1 Thursdays at 9pm), Divers Down (was on SABC1 Mondays at 8.30pm) …well they all were Cape Town productions and they all suck!

I wonder if anyone is watching the brilliant Known Gods (SABC 3) and Interrogation Room (SABC 1) on Thursdays. (Please note I’m using the term brilliant very, very loosely!). If you aren’t then you’re missing out! I think it’s safe for me to assume that these are some of the worst locally produced shows on TV at the moment (them and the uninspiring Shooting Stars), which makes for some awesome comic viewing on a Thursday night. These shows overlap but that’s when watching them becomes even more fun because you can switch between the two and believe me you will laugh until your stomach hurts! Only problem is IR is in Xhosa (with subtitles though) so you will miss a lot of the comedy in the translation.

I don’t mean to be regionalist here but budget aside (shows like Home Affairs, and Society come to mind) or even lack of talent (Tshisa had relatively unknown actors in the lead), it just seems like Jozi has much better acting talent that our eKapa counterparts. This may be as a result of a lack of ongoing projects in the West coast or just plain lack of people who can act?

OHH GAAAD TELL ME ABT IT.I have had it with these low budget (amateur) dramas the SABC keeps feeding us. THANK GAAAD FOR DSTV. And it's amazing that they are always from Cape Town, what are they trying to tell us. I watched Interogation Room last nite but 10 mins was very long for me to keep watching. It SUCKS big time, i'll rather watch i-repeat ye Home Affairs or something else.

i guess u got the title of your article wrong there Tee Bo coz the set is in CT but most of the actors are not from here and are definetely not Xhosa!!

Take uWandile in Shooting Stars for instance he cant speak a word of the language and u wanna say CT folks cant act!! U can blame the sabc or etv for the poor production and the low budget but not CT actors...

Shane in Tshisa did a great job and what about Backstage when it was here,, it rocked and then it lost its viewers when it went to Joburg so what do u say about that!!

Hey Mayo!

Cape Town production = Cape Town actor. It's not a Xhosa thing at all, there's plenty of Xhosa actors who are amazing in Jozi productions... and I'm sure CT has black actors that speak other languages?

Ta!

You right Mayo.... We shouldnt just generalise and say Capetonians. These people are not from here.

And people, Shooting Stars is not so bad, i actually like it.  it's even better than Zone 14.

Interrogation Room is a nightmare... Especially those people that force languages. I think there should be a policy on languages for local programmes. If you cant speak Xhosa, dont lie on your CV, then your script wont have any Xhosa in it. Its really boring.

Diver's what-what is shot in Durbs... I think. You are welcome to buy me a drink if I am wrong.

Then there are those Xhosa people that are trying to be cool and speak some Zulu. It's really boring. Like the one guy, he plays some boring character in Shooting Stars and he's the new Budget in Stokvel, that guy is as Xhosa as you can get (i actually kno him personally) but his script has some Zulu that he speaks with his indigenous(sp) Xhosa accent. It's just not on. I know we trying to be a rainbow and all with our multicultured tribes, but sometimes we really have to stick to being ourselves.

Well im not gonna clash now with u Tee Bo, but im gonna express my views here we are on TVSA remember!!

Umthunzi Wentaba had CT actors on it and it turned out to be one of the most talked about mini serieses emzantsi,,, i know the content of it was the case but the actors there were really good actors,, i still think the name of this article should be changed!! Moderators please,,, i need to go to lunch,!!!

Jordan,

Bay of what-what was shot in Durbs, Divers Down is sooo Cape Town!

Some folk are freaking defensive, yerrrr! I mean the badness has a sort of funny thing about it, at least some of us get to laugh! Let's put it down as CT quirk?

Have an awesome w-end!

PS. Umthunzi weNtaba was one of the whackest shows in the history of shows! The fact that it was relevant doesn't mean it was good... That's just my opinion.

Jozi Rocks!!!

UBRENDA NGXOLI,  grew up in cape town, and now she is on her way to the big apple.disappointed at what Tee Bo is suggesting.the problem with the shows u mentioned is that people who cant speak xhosa get roles that are meant for Xhosa speakers, otherwise I watched divers down, and I saw nothing wrong there, really, I love interoggation roon because they are giving new faces a chance to make it in this indistry rather than using the same faces over and over. I dont watch shooting stars, i see it as merely a campaign to get people more interested to soccer, as 2010 world cup is on its way.

It was great to interact with you guys. I have to dash, happy hour starts at 5! I hate being late... On a light note, a line from the classic and oh, so British “Withnail & I”

Marwood: "Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell..."

Peace, and Have a drink on me tonight!
