In last night's Idols:
From the press release:
The Idols fans have voted in record numbers and it’s Cape Town girls Andriëtte Norman (21) and Jody Williams (17) in the Final this Sunday. A record 1 638 019 votes were cast in this semi-final stage of Idols over the past 24 hours.
But not enough of those votes were for Munro du Toit (26) from George, who has come to the end of the competition and now joins the other seven Top 10 competitors in rehearsal for Sunday evening’s spectacular live Finale show on M-Net, while the Top 2 finalists embark on a whirlwind publicity tour around the country tomorrow morning.
Tickets are sold out for the live Finale at the Ellis Park Arena on Sunday, so Idols fans who didn’t get tickets will have to tune in to M-Net at 17.00 to see all the action. Gift Gwe and the girls from NKD will join the Idols Season 4 competitors on stage in what promises to be a lavish show.
Meanwhile Andriëtte and Jody have one last opportunity this week to impress their fans in person in Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban. The Idols will perform and sign autographs at the Canal Walk Shopping Centre, P.E.’s Boardwalk and Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga. They’re jetting around the country in style in their own chartered, Idols-branded private plane - so keep an eye out for “Air Idols”.
More chances to vote in final week:This final week offers fans seven times more opportunity to vote. Voting opened at the end of the Results Show last night and will stay open into the live Finalé show on Sunday (9 December) - so that’s seven whole calendar days of voting, regardless of how many hours are left in the day (for example, even though it’s already Monday evening, there are still10 MXit chances left for Monday.)
Because of the extra voting days, there are now 70 voting opportunities on MXit this week (10 per day, Monday to Sunday) On SMS and landline, fans can now vote 700 times until voting closes in Sunday’s live show (100 per day, Monday to Sunday). And then there’s still one voting opportunity per hour per voter on the M-Net website.
“This is the most voting opportunities we’ve ever offered in Idols,” says Carl Fischer, M-Net’s Head of Original Productions, “and that is a direct result of the overwhelming enthusiasm fans have shown for this season of Idols, as was demonstrated by the past 24 hours record number of votes.”
