No Strategy, No Luck: Laurel is Cut Adrift
After weeks of watching Jay manipulate the competition, Ben finally decides to form a new alliance with Christa to help get rid of Jay. However, Ben, Christa and Jay must all work together on the Expedition.
After they win, Christa tries to get to the bottom of who doesn't want to compete against her in the end so she meets with Ben and Jay together, which results in a tense argument when lies and betrayals are revealed.
Christa doesn't know whether to mark Ben or Jay with the Black Spot but some new information from Laurel helps her make the decision.
At Pirates' Court, both Ben and Laurel defend themselves but Christa must decide who goes after the ballots yield a tie. Christa bases her decision on her relationships and her desire to compete against the strongest so she cuts Laurel adrift.
"I got cut adrift, but I'm happy that I don't have to play the game against Ben and Jay and Christa because it's just not fun to play against them," she says as she floats out to sea. "I got to experience the Pirate life at sea for a minute but I'm definitely going to be happy to go back to my van."
Strategy leading to Laurel's sinking:Ben Changes His Tune
Below deck, Jay realizes that with 11 Pirates gone he must now do whatever it takes to make it to the end.
Ben sees that Jay has been playing all sides since the beginning so when everyone sleeps he meets with Christa privately in the galley. The two discuss how Jay can't be trusted so they form an alliance against him. "Christa and I came to the realization that Jay was bad news for all of us," Ben explains. "And that we need to get rid of him or he's gonna do a ton more damage."
The Astronomer's Treasure
The next morning, Laurel enjoys herself on the deck of the ship. "I'm probably the most relaxed person on the ship because of the way I'm playing the game," she says. "Like, I don't have a strategy. I'm not trying to get one. And that seems to be working out for me."
Laurel sailed away with $32,332.
