Actress and Isidingo star Ashley Callie died today (Friday 15 February) in Johannesburg from head injuries she sustained in a head-on collision last Friday (8 February).

"It is with sincere regret that the Callie Family confirms that earlier today Ashley passed away as a result of the head injuries she sustained in a car accident," her family said in a statement.

"Ashley continues to live on in our hearts and minds."

Callie was best known for her starring role as Lee Haines in the SABC3 soapie Isidingo, since 2000. She won the inaugural SAFTA award for Best Actress in a Soapie in 2006.

She was also a partner in the La Vista Social Club in Melville, which focuses on casual comfort food.

According to an Isidingo spokesperson, the cast and crew were receiving counselling at the Isidingo studios on Friday.

On behalf of TVSA and all Ashley's fans here, we would like to extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

To me its still a shock that Lee has passed on, it is so because she was the last person i expected to pass on (but then again who is the first one expected to go first b4 the other?) at such a young age and she had so much going on for herself. i was watching her on ISIDINGO last week not even having the slightest clue that this was her last month on this world. gosh!!!!!! you just never know! which brings me to the point that in life there are no second chances best you do everything that makes you as an individual happy  and live your life for your self  and be the best you can be. with all this said i hope she rests in peace and find whatever they find there that makes them so happy that they don't even think of coming back.

to the Callie family: this dark cloud will soon clear and you will see the sunshine may the creator be with you through this time. God bless you...and South Africa is crying with you.

Ashley Callie- Leonee 'lee' Haynes rest in peace and stey your amazing sweet self.....WE LOVE YOU SISI WE WIL ALWAYS DO

Oh my Leoni! The one person i hoped to get to chat to this year... Rest in peace! We miss you already! Watching you on Isidingo these days just hurts because we know its only a little while that we will still "see" you. She was so damn talented!

I always believed her when she would call Barker "Daddy!" - is always seemed genuine...
