Lost
Episode 404
Eggtown

I’m feeling pretty chuffed with myself right now – I figured out that Kate’s ‘son’ is Aaron. We (my sister and I) had a theory that the “he” mentioned in the Season 3 finale, was not Sawyer as we initially thought it was. Sawyer just seemed too obvious.

So, in my opinion it was either Captain Mal (her cop ex-hubby) or a baby – specifically Sawyer’s baby. But as the episode progressed, I started wondering about whether the child could be Aaron. Her having Aaron raises so many questions though!!

In Kate’s flash-forward, we see her face the consequences of her murderous past. She is apprehended and put of trail for numerous crimes, including the murder of her father. Kate’s lawyer says that her best defense is her character, and so he gets Jackass to testify. Jackass spins a wondrous tale of their crash, which is all a BIG FAT LIE. Eventually, Kate gets set free with parole and some other stuff and heads home to her little boy Aaron.

On the island, my question as to whether Kate stayed behind on her own free will is answered. Kate has indeed stayed behind of her own free will, and it seems she’s bunking with Claire, not with Sawyer as one would expect. It’s not like Sawyer’s not trying anyway, because he’s trying everything to get her in his house and in his bed.

While she may not want to share Sawyer’s bed right now, she still uses him to get Miles to Benry. She’s made a deal with Miles – he’ll tell her what he knows in return with just a minute to talk to good ole Benry. She and Sawyer trick Locke into leaving his house and surprisingly, Miles is only interested in blackmailing Benry. For a nice tidy sum of $3.2 million, he’ll pretend he never saw Benry. Interesting.

So then Locke, now the lord and master of Otherville (soon to be renamed Lockeville) banishes Kate. But Kate doesn’t go immediately. She goes to Sawyer and snuggles down for the night. However, when Sawyer exclaims his relief at her not being pregnant the next morning, she gets fussed up, slaps him and leaves for the beach.

At the beach, Jackass and Juliet are trying to contact the boat, willing to hear news from Sayid and Desmond. When they are unable to contact the boat, Charlotte gives them an emergency number, and they find out that according to the boaties, they (the boaties) think that the helicopter is still on the island.

Well, I’ve never made a secret of the fact that I dislike Kate. I truly dislike her - more than anyone else on that show. Jackass annoys me no end, but I don’t dislike him. I understand where he comes from. But my Kate-hate is as strong as ever. She’s a spoilt little brat who keeps throwing her toys about.

I’m extremely glad that Sawyer pointed out a few home truths to her. Kate does indeed bounce between these two men and that has always been my issue with her. She uses them both, and they both just go along with it. I hope this marks the end of the relationship between Sawyer and Kate. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if she still finds her way back to his bed. I would be very upset with Sawyer though. He’s proven that he has some brains, and taking Kate back would just be stupid, in my opinion.

As far as I am concerned, Kate’s back story ran its course a while back, and the only thing interesting about this flash is the fact that she has Aaron. I think her story is really overrated. On the island, with the other losties, she fits in nicely but on her own… she just doesn’t cut it. And yes, I know I am harsh, but I have been really let down with Kate’s story. We were lead to believe that she’s dangerous killer etc etc, when she’s actually a good little girl trying to toy with a bad boy and a doctor. What’s so unusual about that?!? (*sits back and waits for the fury of Kate fans*)

Anyway, here are what I consider to be the important points of the episode.

• Kate has Aaron. Ok, by now I am 99.9% sure that it is Claire’s Aaron. Her having a son and calling him Aaron is firstly far too coincidental and secondly just slightly freaky. What is she doing with him?

He seems to be about 3 years old, and he’s calling her mommy. What I gather from this is that they either leave the island while Aaron is still quite young or Kate assumes responsibility for him when he is still quite young. So where is Claire? I think for now, I am going to assume that Claire dies. I can’t think of any other reason, and I can’t see Claire willingly giving up her son.

And why doesn’t Jack want to see him? He didn’t have an issue with Aaron on the island.

Can we consider Aaron as one of the Oceanic six?

• Jackass’s Big Fat Lie. According to what they are telling everyone, there were only 8 survivors, and that the Marshall died during the crash, and that Jackass never spoke to him. Why the lie? Ok, I can understand if they are reluctant to admit to everything that happened on the island, but why state that only 8 people survived? And if 6 are rescued, where are the other two? What is the reason for this big cover-up??

• Miles blackmailing Benry. Huh?!?! For me, that was the huge WTF moment in this episode. Of all the things I expected Miles to say to Benry, that was not it. Why 3.2 Million dollars? That sum seems significant to both Miles and Benry. This is going to open a huge can of worms, and I can’t wait to see what wriggles out of it.

• Locke’s desperation move. Personally, I think Locke’s lost the plot a bit. And he wasn’t all that sane to start of with either. Stuffing that grenade in Mile’s mouth is a desperate move. I don’t know what he expected from Benry. Did he honestly expect Benry to start co-operating now? And I just loved Benry’s smirk when Locke looses it. Benry knows exactly which buttons to push, and Locke falls for it time and time again.

• Something I found very interesting was the memory game between Daniel and Charlotte. It’s just 3 cards, and Daniel can’t remember them. The guy is clearly intelligent, but is his memory that bad?? Another can of wriggling worms about to get opened, me thinks.

• Sayid, Desmond and Frank have not reached the boat as yet, despite having left the day before. Have they crashed? I somehow doubt it. I think it’s going to be another time rift/wormhole thing, and they are going to either end up back on the island or on the boat. This, I think, ties up nicely with Daniel’s time experiment last week.

As usual, I cannot wait for next week’s episode. This was not as good as last’s weeks and I hope next weeks WTF is better than this weeks.

What we have learnt so far

• Kate has Aaron.
• The Oceanic 6 have spun a tale of lies. No-one, it seems, is really aware of what happened on the island.
• Sayid, Des and Frank have not made to the boat
• Kate is not pregnant
• Ben has a lot of money. Enough to pay off a $3.2 million blackmailer, anyway.
• Aaron finally has clothes!!!

New Mysteries to add to our ever growing list

• Why does Kate have Aaron?
• Just who the hell is Benry? And who is looking for him, and why?
• What’s up with Miles and his poor memory.
• Will Sawyer be an ass and take Kate back.

Interesting Trivia (from this site)

• In the scene where Miles is talking to Ben, it can be seen that Miles delivers a secret message to Ben if one looks carefully at the lip movements of Miles just after Ben says "You've arranged this meeting so you could blackmail me?" (I never noticed this one!)

• Hurley starts playing a tape Xanadu a 1980 movie starring Olivia Newton-John, Michael Beck and Gene Kelly. A musical, it barely broke even at the box office, and was nominated for five Razzie awards, winning one for Worst Director. Despite this, it has endured as a cult classic.

• The tray Locke carries Ben's food on at the start of the episode is Octagonal, and hence the same shape as the Dharma Logos.
Similarly, 8 is a "Lost Number" and an Octagon has 8 sides.

• The book Locke gives to Ben is called 'VALIS' by Philip K. Dick.

Hmm, didn't know about that!  I'll have to rewatch.  Some have speculated that Miles didn't really want money from Benry; instead, he was talking to Ben in some secret code, and the numbers he used (3.2, 3 days, a week=7 days) have some secret significance.  I don't know if I believe that though.  It's been established that Miles is money-hungry, and that Ben perhaps has many secret resources.

What i like about this blog and this site is that between all the lost fans out here, i get lots of info.  honestly, i very rarely get half the things that you all do.

like for example, i never saw the kate-has-aaron thing coming.  was a shock.  even my hubby didn't see it.

great summary.  like the bonus sawyer pics :) :)

I am not sure I believe that whole secret message thing either.  Unless Miles is Ben's man on the boat??

And thanks Jem.
I like the bonus sawyer pics too.

I just don't understand why Jack doesn't want to see his own nephew, unless he still doesn't know that Claire is his sister, In which case he'll never know.

Perhaps he is guilt ridden because he had something to do with Claire staying/dying on the island.
