Coming up on Dans! Dans! Dans! this Saturday night (22 March, 2008):

On Saturday night, the Top 6 contestants get into character for the evening’s theme of Stories and Fables, dancing variations of contemporary dance.

Viewers can expect a show filled with myth and magic as the dancers take to Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre stage to compete for a place in the Dans! Dans! Dans! grand finale, their last opportunity to be crowned as champion.

The Top 6 dancers are: Rachelle D’Artnall (24) from Northriding, Randburg, Nicole McCreedy (28) from Durban, Yarisha Singh (27) from Kaapstad, Andile Ndlovu (19) from Ennerdale, Johannesburg, Casey Swales (19) from Durban North and Henk Opperman (17) from Bloemfontein.

Each finalist will perform their first dance solo, their second with a partner and their third in a group. The dance pairs are: Henk and Rachelle, Casey and Yarisha and Andile and Nicole.

Although they perform individually and in groups, each dancer is judged individually, based on their own performance. Judges Esther Nasser, Lorcia Cooper and Dirk Badenhorst will be joined by one of South Africa’s dance choreographer, artistic director and dance educationalist, Alfred Hinkel.

Hinkel is the current Artistic Director of Jazzart. He joined Jazzart as a dancer, teacher and choreographer in 1982 and has been the head of Jazzart’s performance company since 1986. JazzArt will stage a production called I Am Cinnamon later this year with the winner of Dans! Dans! Dans! in the lead role.

At the end of the evening judges will select four dancers who will be up for elimination. The fates of these four dancers lie in the hands of the voting public.

Voting lines open on Saturday night directly after the broadcast (at 21h00), and close again on Monday evening at 20h05.

The guy and the girl who receive the most votes will have the chance to compete for the title of Dans! Dans! Dans! champion in next week’s finale, while the guy and the girl who receive the least votes will be sent home.

South African violinist Annake de Villiers will join the dancers on stage for their final number.

Tickets to the penultimate spectacular are on sale at Computicket at R40 each.
