Welcome to the school of Glamour! My name is Miss Fabulous and I'm here to both teach and learn from you guys. Hope you will extend me the same courtesy!
Let me start by telling you what this article and future articles in this blog will be about - you guessed it - GLAMOUR!. Every woman is glamourous in her own way. But there are times when we somehow manage to fall off the wagon...or maybe some of us haven't even got on that wagon yet. This is a place you'll find people to help you get on (or back on) that wagon! Here we'll share tips and ideas, experiences on what works/doesn't work etc etc.
This first article will be about the basic basics of glamour - redifining and accentuating your eye area. Future articles will focus on other areas of Glamour ranging from hair to shoes to attitude. For anyone who'll be trying makeup for the first time or even just grooming their face(s) this is the place to start. Enjoy the tutoring and let's have fun!
Rewind! Before we get started I need to stress to you guys the importance of a 3-step routine - Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising. This is an absolute must for ALL Women! They say you must do it twice a day but I only do it once, in the evenings, I seriously don't see a reason why I should do all of this in the morning when my skin hasn't been "exposed" to all that gargage in the world. In the evenings, yes! There's all that make-up, dirt, grime, oiliness and all the other baddies out there to get rid of. Unless all these baddies are full-time occupants on and in my pillow I don't see why I must do it again in the morning...Right! Now let's get started.
The Eye
The eye to me is the most important feature a person has. When someone is looking at you and/or talking to you chances are that's the place they're looking at. First impressions last. If you're a newbee to make-up, ie never even had eye liner on then I suggest this is where you start. Don't jump-start and go straight to liquid eyeliners and all the other fabulous goodies out there for your eyes. Go for the simplest and cheapest (cheapest as in cheapest in the eye liner range, not cheap as in no name!).
You can make wonderful changes to your eyes with just a couple of strokes of eyeliner. Learning a few new techniques lets you change your eye shape, bring out and enhance your eye color, accentuate, or even dramatize your eyes. For perfect results, you need to start by selecting the correct color.
Black Eyeliner
Brown eyeliner is a great color choice for black skin as it suites everyone. It looks good with any color of eyes and is suitable for both daytime wear and for a special night out. Use less eyeliner in the daytime for a very natural look. Putting your liner on heavier can give you a sultry, mysterious look.
How to Put on Eyeliner
With a few pointers, you'll learn how to put on eyeliner like a professional in no time!
Learn some professional secrets of how to put on eyeliner, and look fabulous. Your friends will compliment you on your fantastic eyes, but the secret will be yours.
Selecting Your Eyeliner Color

Types of Eyeliner
Pencils
Although they are easiest to use, eyeliner pencils pull your lids, if you do not hold your eyelids taunt.
Liquid Eyeliner
You'll need a steady hand to apply liquid eyeliner. Pencils are easier to apply, but liquid liner offers a great look as well.
For now our focus will only be on Pencil Eyeliner!
Something like this will do. Start lining the bottom of your eye with a pencil and be amazed at the awesomeness of this! Please don't get carried away and go for colours - go back to basics - stick to black! There's a few shades of black like black black, blackest black etc. Choose whichever one you want. Please note this is written with black skin in mind as this is the only area I'm familiar with. It is not to intentionally exclude anyone else, am just sticking to what I know! OK.
Technique
Draw a line as close as possible to your eyelashes.
Work from the inner edge of your eye to the outer edge on the upper lid.
Make sure your eyeliner pencil is sharp.
Use a sponge brush and go back and forth over the liner gently, so you smudge the line for a softer look.
Line the lower lid from the outside and taper to the inner edge. Again, smudge the liner.
Acquiring the art of how to put on eyeliner simply takes a bit of patience and practice.
After the eyeliner then comes the mascara.
This part is by far the trickiest for any newbee! There's mascara's for volume, curly lashes, curvasceous (sp!) lashes, length, waterproof...the list is endless. Then there are different brushes to choose from. Not to mention alot of people will find they're allergic (like myself) to some mascaras and will have to shop around till they find one that's perfect for them. This means investment after investment (not necessarily wasted, you can give them away...but you also have to take hygiene into consideration...more on this later!) Now I finally found a mascara that doesn't affect my eyes in any way and have stuck to my Maybelline ever since! Any mascara by Maybelline was made specifically for these Fabulous lashes, methinks!
Applying mascara is easy! If you're like me then you can't stand new, just bought mascara! Too thick and too wet! I like to wipe a little bit off with wet wipes (for baby's bum!). NOT WITH TISSUE PLEASE! Also, wiping it off on the tip of the little mascara bottle can lead to it chunking up just on the opening and creating a mess so...
Start by brushing the inner lashes. By this I mean the side of the lashes that brush over your skin when you close your eyes. Once you get used to that then you can start brushing the outside too! And if you happen to smudge don't fret and try and wipe it all off, you'll only make more of a mess than there already is! Just wait a few minutes for it to dry off. If it's a big smudge then you can easily flick it off with your finger/nail like a piece of dried...something! A small smudge is best wiped off with a wet cloth. Again, I suggest you only stick to BLACK! The color will make the whites of your eyes whiter!
Ok, on this one, I'll let Cruella Divine do all the talking:
Eyebrows are usually the most neglected part of a person's face and yet they are the most important feature on a person's face. They tell people a lot about you. When they are properly tweezed or glued down, they help to balance facial features. They draw attention to the eyes like a picture frame for the eyes and they are never noticed. If they are improperly tweezed they draw attention to themselves. They give the face an unbalanced and can give the face a character from a comic book. Groom your eyebrows and you will look well polished.
Basic Guidelines to Tweezing Eyebrows and Eyebrow Grooming
Align a long handle brush with the side of the nose and the inside corner of the eye. This is where the brow should begin
Align brush with the edge of the nostril and the outside corner of the eye. This is where the brow should end.
Align your brush with the beginning and the end of both brows. The brow should begin and end on the same level.
Align your brush with the outside rim of your iris (the coloured part of your eye). This is where the arch should be.
The brow should be one thickness from beginning to end, tapering slightly at the end. Align your brush handle with the highest points of both brows to indicate this.
Correcting Certain Problems with your Eyebrows
High Forehead: The arch should only be slightly elevated. Take out only one or two hairs.
Low Forehead: Keep arch low. Leave in one or two extra hairs.
A Round Face: Arch the brows slightly higher to give the illusion of more length> take out three or four extra hairs.
A Long Face: Keep the arch low to create more width to the face. Similar to the low forehead.
Close Set Eyes: Tweeze a couple of extra hairs at the beginning of the brow to create more space
Wide Set Eyes: Leave in a couple hairs at the beginning of the brow to create less space.
Fixing Problem Eyebrows
Thick Brows are identified by the stray hairs that grow down into the crease area of the eye lid. This closes the space between the brow and the crease, consequently, making the eye appear smaller and closed.
Brows That Are Too Long are identified by the stray hairs that grow down the outer corner of the eyebrow. This creates the illusion of drooping eyes. It changes the whole face and creates a very sad or melancholy look. It also makes the eyes appear older.
One Brow Look or Unibrow can be identified by the stray hairs that grow across the bridge of the nose. This gives the illusion of having one eyebrow over two eyes. It creates a very stern, unpleasant and angry look. This also makes the eyes look close set.
Brows that have a rounded or too high of an arch. These can be identified by the excessive space from the crease to the brow. This creates a quizzical or a stunned appearance. It also gives the illusion of a permanent frown line and makes the eyes appear to be smaller.
Final Note
All eyebrow corrections must be very Subtle & Natural Looking!! As my Make-up
That is your lesson for today! Feel free to comment or share your thoughts/ideas etc. Remember, we are all here to learn! Next article will focus on eyeshadows!
