LostEpisode 407Ji YeonWhen Lost first started all those years ago, I didn’t care much for Jin. I thought he was a cold, cruel man who had a wife that was too good for him. He’s one of the few losties that I’ve changed my mind about. I realized that, like the other losties, his story is so much more than what we first saw, and that Jin was a very troubled man.
This episode deceptively focuses on Jin and Sun off the island. We are led to believe that they have both left the island, and are preparing for the birth of their child. But sadly, it wasn’t so.
Sun goes into labour and is rushed to the hospital. While there, she repeatedly calls for Jin, saying that she cannot have her baby without him. Interspersed between her flash-forwards, we see a harassed Jin trying to get to hospital, to a maternity ward. Sun finally gives birth to a beautiful baby girl.
This is where is gets bad. Jin’s having a flashback (he takes a panda to the Chinese Ambassador, whose daughter has just given birth to a daughter) and it’s only two months after his marriage to Sun.
Sun’s flash-forward concludes when Hurley goes to visit her and Ji Yeon (her beautiful daughter). They go to a graveyard, and look down at Jin’s grave. They’re mourning Jin. Jin is apparently dead.
I am really so upset. I absolutely refuse to believe that Jin is dead. It just can’t be so. Until I see conclusive proof that Jin is dead, I’m going to believe that he is alive, but still on the island. I can see Jin choosing to stay behind so that his wife and child could have a chance at living. I don’t think it would even be a choice for him.
On the island, in ‘present day’, Sun decides that she wants to move to Locketown, as she has now major doubts that the boaties are there to rescue them. She confronts Daniel, who cannot give her the answer she is looking for.
When Juliet finds Sun rummaging through medication, Sun tells her that she is moving to Lockeville. Juliet tries to dissuade her from leaving; telling her that she needs to leave the island within three weeks or she will die. Sun still prepares to leave for Lockedale.
In desperation, Juliet tells Jin that Sun has had an affair and that Sun was afraid that the baby wasn’t Jin’s. A devastated Jin turns back towards the beach, and does not want anything to do with Sun.
Later, Juliet apologizes to Sun for telling Jin about the affair, and manages to convince her that she must leave the island.
Jin, meanwhile, goes fishing with Bernard. Bernard confides in Jin about Rose’s cancer, and while they chat, Bernard talks about Karma, and Jin realizes many things about himself and Sun. When they get back, he goes to Sun, and tells her that he forgives her, because he knows what kind of a man he was before the island. He asks Sun if the baby is his, and happily, it is. They embrace.
It’s very sweet, and very heart-breaking. I’ve always found their obsessive love to be an amazing story. It’s so apparent that they really, truly love each other; but they still hurt each other despite this love. It’s beautiful, sad and wonderful that they have overcome these obstacles.
On the boat, meanwhile, Sayid and Desmond are being held in the medical room. Frank brings in some food for them and tells them that he did not leave the door open for them. A while later, after Frank has left, a note is pushed through the door warning them not to trust the captain.
Some time later, Ray (the doctor) takes them to the deck where the captain is apparently waiting for them. While on deck, they witness Regina (who was acting strangely earlier) jump into the ocean with heavy chains tied around her. She commits suicide.
We then meet the elusive Captain Gault. He’s is, in Sayid’s words, surprising forthcoming and reveals quite a bit. The most important, of course, is the fact that the wreckage along with the black box, bodies etc were an elaborate setup; staged by Benry.
Later, Sayid and Desmond are taken to new rooms. But the room that they are in has a massive blood stain, and Ray calls in the cleaner to clean it. Michael turns out to be the cleaner Kevin Johnson.
Well done, all of you who claimed that Michael was Benry’s man on the boat. Well, actually, that point still needs to be proven, but I think we can all safely conclude that Michael is, indeed, Benry’s man on the boat. The big question now is – Where is Walt?!?!
The Key points from this episode:
• Sun is one of the Oceanic 6, and gives birth to a beautiful baby girl off the island. Jin is either dead, or back on the island.
• Jin now knows the truth about Sun’s and Jae-Lee’s affair, and has forgiven her. He accepts her word that the baby is his.
• Michael is apparently Ben’s man on the boat. Well, like I said earlier, we still need proof of this, but I think we can all safely assume that it is so. How did he get onto that boat? Why? When? What is his mission? When did he start trusting Benry? And where is Walt? I wonder if Walt could have been aware of this??
I’m not sure of that though. Walt seemed desperate to get back to his father, and didn’t seem to trust the Others at all. I think that Walt is either back on the island, or that Benry gave Michael coordinates to another island or hatch where Walt is safely stowed away.
• The Oceanic Flight 815 is an elaborate setup, supposedly staged by Ben. Hmm. I’m not sure that I believe that just yet. This entire boat operation is being financed by Charles Widmore. He’s spent an exorbitant amount of money getting artifacts about the island (Hanso’s diary). He’s been aware of the island for some time now. How can we be sure that he was not behind the fake wreckage? He certainly has the means to make it happen.
• Something weird is going on with some of the crew on the Kahana. Regina kills herself. Gault says that some of the crew is suffering from “extreme cabin fever” from being so close to the island. Interesting.
This was an emotional episode. They do this to us all the time. When did these people come to mean so much to us? I guess that is why this show works – you get to care for these people, and want to see them happy. I am really hoping that Jin is not dead. *fingers crossed, people!!*

• Ji-Yeon means either ''delay'' or ''flower of wisdom''.
• According to his tombstone Jin was born on the 27th of November 1974, making him 30 at this point on the island.
• The Book that Regina is reading is "Survivors of the Chancellor" That tells a story about survivors of a ship wreckage
• According to the tombstone, Jin died in 2004, September 22, the day of the plane crash.
• The Kahuna's captain may be based on a character from Ayn Rand's 1957 novel, Atlas Shrugged.
The story is about a group of very powerful and important people (in society's eyes, at least) who feel underappreciated, and create a separate utopian world, a "village" hidden from view from people, planes and the world.
