We’re faced with so many opportunities and choices on a daily basis that choosing between them has become a daily struggle for many of us. And most times, instead of taking control of the situation, we leave our future in the hands of others, our friends, our families, even total strangers. If you’re an indecisive sista, we’ve got eight tips for effective decision-making right for you.
1. The first thing you need to do is write down a list of with two separate columns for what you need and what you want. Focus on your needs first, because ultimately they’ll outweigh the latter.
2. Consider all of your options before making a decision. List all the facts and attributes of each one and narrow them down to the three most promising ones.
3. What are your goals and how will each decision affect it? Consider the outcome each decision and weigh up the pro’s and con’s of each one.
4. Stop for a minute to focus on how you feel before making the decision. Are you thinking emotionally or practically? Rash emotional decisions aren’t usually the most successful ones. If you have time, it’s best to put it off until you feel ready to make a practical decision.
5. If you’re uncertain, follow that feeling in the pit of your stomach. Your intuition will guide you to what you really need.
6. Are other people influencing your decision? Don’t discuss your predicament with everyone, or all of their varying opinions will cloud your judgment. Rather choose one valued friend and ask their opinion.
7. Clear your mind of any preconceived ideas that are not based on fact so that you won’t be affected by misleading information. What works for some people may not be the best option for you.
8. Or you could flip a coin. If you’re pushed for time, acting on a whim may not be the worst idea. But with choice comes responsibility and you’ll have to take responsibility for the outcome.
Either way, it’s best to just get it over with instead of putting it off. Remember deciding not choose is still a choice, so either way there’ll be an outcome. At least this way, you get to choose the outcome.
