November highlights on TCM:

CNN Screening Room
On: Wednesday 12 November at 21h30
Venice & Toronto Film Festivals

The Screening Room travels to two of the world's biggest film festivals: Venice and Toronto. In Venice, Brad Pitt and George Clooney are at the premiere of the Coen brothers' "Burn after Reading" and Italian cinema.

At Toronto, a look at some of the films that could kick off this year's Oscar season.



TCM Classic Shorts

The winners and runners up from the TCM Classic Shorts 2008 competition will be shown for the first time this month.

TCM Classic Shorts is an annual short film-making competition. In it's ninth year, this year was the first year that the competition has been open to entries from Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The competition rewards the top three film makers with £10,000 of prize money (1st prize - £5,000; 2nd prize - 3,000; 3rd prize £2,000).

SA's Darrell Roodt (Cry The Beloved Country, Sarafina, Yesterday) is on the judging panel and the films will be shown on TCM on these dates:

Monday 17 November at 22h00
Classic Shorts 2008: Runners Up
Duration: 105mins

Tuesday 18 November at 22h00
Classic Shorts 2008: Winner, 2nd and 3rd place films.
Duration: 105 mins

The six finalists are:

E Finita La Commedia (Belgium) directed by Jean-Julie Collette and Olivier Toller and produced by Helicotrovic

The Wednesdays (Ireland) directed by Conor Ferguson and produced by Anne-Marie Naughton

Leaving (UK) directed by Richard Penfold and Sam Hearn and produced by Rachel Drummond-Hay

Ripple (UK) directed by Paul Gowers and produced by Richard Batty

Gone Fishing (UK) directed by Chris Jones and produced by Ivan Francis Clements

Nine-Ball (Sweden) directed by Nikolina Gillgren.
