M-Net has confirmed that Mara Louw will return as a judge on the upcoming fifth season of Idols.
She joins Randall Abrahams, who was confirmed last week.
According to sources, the show hopes to reunite all four of the regular judges and negotiations are still underway with Gareth Cliff and Dave Thompson, to iron out availability clashes and sign the paperwork.
Both Randall and Mara have released audition advice for hopefuls.
Randall's advice: "Don’t choose the most obvious hits; someone else will in all likelihood do a better job anyway. And don’t try to oversing in order to impress the judges with your technique. Just keep it natural."
He advises that auditionees specifically steer clear of Mariah Carey's We Belong Together.
“It’s technically too difficult for even the above-average singer," he says. "There will be too many people who’ll use it to try and impress.”
Mara's advice: “If the judges give you constructive pointers, don’t be nasty to them. Also remember that local is always lekker. There is nothing wrong with being original. Take time to watch our own African “idols” on DVD and look closely at home at musicians like Danny K and Heinz Winckler.”
She also advises that auditionees be as professional as possible. “Practice, practice, practice!" she says. "And know your lyrics. Don’t ‘tata ma chance’ - this is not the lotto.”
The first audtions sing off in Cape Town on 17 December 2008.
