Dear Thomas,
Wow, how you've grown since the first time I saw you on Woza Weekend!
When I later heard you on Harambe with Lee and Sanza, I thought wow, I wanna marry this guy! You guys rocked maan!
Anyway, that was then, this is now...
I'm not saying you are bad now. I mean, you do have your good days on Breakfast With Thomas but they are becoming very few, kutheni?
Before I get to that, let me explain why I even care......the thing is I like you! I absolutely adore your sense of humour and without having spent a minute in your company, I can confidently say that you're a very fun person to hang out with, eish, to cut a long story short, let me just say uyandichaza maan bhut' wam!!
So ke, the reason I wrote this letter is because I wanted to ask you to please re-look how you do the show and some of the stuff you say on air.
As much as I love you as a person, when I listen to you on Breakfast With Thomas, I don't want to know about your personal life. It's not that I'm jealous about your seemingly happy marriage (seeing that I still don't have my Mr. Right & all) mara your home life doesn't interest me enough to want to listen to you yap talk about it Monday to Friday.
If you are lost, I'd gladly give you an example....
The other day you were talking about how you and Unathi went to Simphiwe Dana's house for dinner and I don't even remember what the point was but I think you mentioned something about a game you played? What's that got to do with me and the show?
The first time you played Siphokazi's new single, you mentioned that your son's nanny loves it and that when you get home every day the house is just blazing with Sphokazi. Okay, granted, nothing "wrong" with that.
But.....a few days after that, you played the song again and as it played, in my head I was thinking about you having said your nanny likes etc and guess what, as soon as the song ended you were like :
Thomas: I told you mos that my nanny likes the CD neh? So now she's going home this weeekend coz she has some things to take care of (we really didn't need to know this) so she asked me for permission to take the CD with her but obviously I couldn't give her permission because it's Unathi's CD.
BBK: But surely you pay her well enough to be able to afford a CD?
What is sad is that your co-hosts end up being dragged into these discussions bese nabo they want to share their stories and really if it's not FUNNY, guys don't share!
At this point, I know you're probably thinking that I should listen to another station if I don't like your show mara the thing is I've tried that and it didn't work out.
Eish, I tried listening to Sbu but besides the fact that I'm no longer YFM's target, one of the "last times" I tuned in to Sbu's show, he was supposed to give away tickets to The Game's concert but I got upset and very offended when he and his producer asked people to go to the Zone and stand outside the YFM studio in their undies just to win tickets to a concert.
I was upset because it was very contradictory to what Sbu usually preaches.
He always talks about how we should be proud, successful and great people be so I found it a bit "off" that he would ask the future of SA to humiliate themselves like that just to see an American rapper.
I tried listening to him again after that but each time I tuned in he was playing the new Mzekezeke song & nice as it is, there's just something not right about hearing it all the time..
Anyway, let's not gossip about Sbu, I was just trying to explain why I still have to listen to your show.
I also have to tune it coz BBK keeps drawing me back man. I am a huge fan of his sports bulletin in the morning, it certainly beats that "Thato Moeng" on Sbu's show.
And speaking of BBK, please tell him I said well done on the way he's handled Marawa's Discovery Sports Centre. I especially enjoyed his interview with Tim Modise's successor! (Minus the ambiguous questions!)
Okay, so ja, if it matters that I tune in so please try and address that little issue but if it's part of your contract ukuthi you must talk about Sinako's school concerts now and again then I will respect that.
I know you're busy but thank you so much for taking the time to read this and really, if I didn't care, I wouldn't have taken the time to write this.
Lotsa love,
Brown Shuga
