A culmination of seven years, Born to Be Different provides a frank and intimate account of what it’s like to be a child growing up with a disability.
Since they were born, the show has followed the lives of six different disabled children - from the shock of the initial diagnosis, to the trauma of major operations and the day-to-day reality of living with a disability.
Some have faced life threatening illnesses, others have to deal with prejudice and discrimination. All of them have the pressure of living day to day with a disability.
Now the children have turned seven they can describe, in their own words, what it feels like to be different from their friends - to face harrowing medical procedures or the embarrassment of having to wear a nappy in the classroom.
Even though they may not reach the same milestones as other children, they still have dreams and take pride in their achievements – from finishing a race at sports day, forming strong bonds with their siblings or wearing the same party shoes as their friends.
Some families fall apart under the strain, others pull together and become stronger, but they all share an unconditional love for their children.
