For the name's sake

Everyone has a name, it is the only way we can identify each other.
No one chose their names, it is what our parents saw fit when they first saw us.

But in life we get second chances at everything.  We get to choose our names when we sign up here. One of the reasons that made me sign up here was because of that.

Now, there is a belief that you must give a child the name they can live up to (eg if you name your child Botlhale he will be clever).....i dont know the whole shebang (but i know the power of the tongue)....and i do know that we gave ourselve what we believe defines us or what we like.

So my fellow cyber friends...lets tlak about names
please tell me:

what inspired you to choose your name?

what message are you trying to communicate with your name?

are you living up to your name- or maybe the interpretation behind it?

well this is my story
ever since i was young i was curious about the colours of roses...
i always wonderd if there was a blue one....

and then i watched a short film of some teenangers who wanted to make a blue rose, that is when i realised that there is no blue rose in real life

What inspired you to choose your name?
i chose this name because of the mystery behind the blue rose

What message areyou trying to communicate with your name?
i want others to see that i am a mysteriuos individual....blue rose
i am beautiful......rose
i am vibrant.......the colour blue
i am fiesty.......the rose thorns

but over and above i want this name to communicate that i am an individual and i am an explorer of life.....

a bluerose indicates just how endless the possibilities are out there.....we can all do what is in our wildest dreams!!!

are you living up to your name- or maybe the intepretation behind it?
yees, i do

ok bloggers, lets hear what you have to say about your name...

please be gentle with me; this is my first article....and i also joined this world so that i can ask you guys this very question.

18 Feb 2009 15:08

What inspired you to choose your name?
i chose my name coz it sounded too cute, once heard in a movie, this guy calling his ladylove by her pet name Pooky and i just loved it. I have no idea what it means but i'm sure it cant be something bad, it sounds  too adorable for that.

What message areyou trying to communicate with your name?
that i'm cute, sweet, adorable, loving and fun

are you living up to your name- or maybe the interpretation behind it?
ya coz i'm naturally like that according to my own definition of what Pooky, Pooky-baby-Pookynunu-Pookynana-Pookylicious-Pookza means

Zah000
18 Feb 2009 15:09

nice
18 Feb 2009 15:11

what inspired you to choose your name?
It is the last 4 letters of my real name. A friend cut out two letters of it and came out with nice. and strangely one of my sisters uses that name at times. and because it is taken from the middle I find it very difficult to begin it with a capital N like we were taught to write our names

are you living up to your name- or maybe the interpretation behind it?
Yes I do, I am a nice person and try to always remain like that even when it seems like some people dont deserve it.

Zah000
18 Feb 2009 15:17

There's a guy I went to school with. Everyone called him Mdu, but when you actually went deeper than that you'd realize ukuthi it's a short version for Mdunuselwa!!! I mean, WTF?? What's the whole reason behind that?

18 Feb 2009 15:19

What message areyou trying to communicate with your name?
Hayi sana I have never thought about that.

Are you living up to your name- or maybe the interpretation behind it?
Ewe sana..., but sometimes some people piss me off esp. here in Jozi they will rock up sentences like: "Tshini sana, unjani sana kaloku, sana sana sana"

And all I say is "SANA LWAM SUZIBAXA IZINTO"

Zah000>>>>>>you can never question parents on names such as those....nomapilisi, nobarbwire, dontworry;polite i mean you will never understand so you just have to accept.

it is only when you choose a snaks name for yourself that we question the motive behind that

P.S. Bluerose, your name is very interesting. It is indeed
>>>>>>>>>thanks guys

Best-Achiever
18 Feb 2009 15:33

Nice one Blueroze ....
i once wrote the same article (http://www.tvsa.co.za/default.asp?blogname=Achiever&ArticleID=7660) but i think you were not here then

so i have copied my explaination acroos

Mine, Best-Achiever comes a long way
.. Back in primary school while i was doing grade 5, we had Science and Mathematics competition in our district, each and every school was to send their top 3 from grade 5, 6 and 7 to complete with other scholars in our district, so one day i was amongst the group of scholars who were chosen to write ... we went there and wrote, we were about 50 in mathematics competition, and they only chose Top ten and gave them trophy (which goes to the school) and bursary(for school fees, uniform books and pocket money) for the following year. Well i passed and was among the Top Ten, so i got a trophy and bursar y(it was Friday when we went there), on Monday on Assembly, or principal called us and said we are proud to announce our Best Achievers who went there and represented us and made us proud, from there our teachers and other scholars started calling us Best Achievers, that name followed us until today, we were 6 and we still call each other Best achiever even today our teachers still call us that.

are you living up to your name- or maybe the intepretation behind it?
I have been trying to live up to it because i use it everywhere i go and it has been my driving force, i cant achieve anything less that the best even if it means i fail 100 times before it becomes the Best!

what inspired you to choose your name?
To hide my true gender, when i first came in hear there were things hidden deep down in my heart, I had the obsession of hiding things, so I guess hiding my true igender gave me the comfort that know one can go deeper than my shell. Nicely though tvsa have shown me that I can confide about anything and recieve a shoulder to cry on, advice and there by heal.

what message are you trying to communicate with your name?
that you dont have to judge the book by the cover, (u dont hav 2 look @ d person and make assumptions about them (be it their gender, bank account, background etc,) everyone you meet is fighting their own battle, the least u can do is be nice.

are you living up to your name- or maybe the interpretation behind it?
Yepp, 01 means I am one of a kind, and that I am.

LOL@ Blueroze.. I was called candy as a young girl till i got to high school and started using my real name..so i just replaced the y with an e here coz there is soo many Candy's out there.. Some of my relatives still call me Candy and most people use my real name

kandaba
19 Feb 2009 15:42

Isithakazelo sakithi nguNdaba, people are not used to my surname (Zisongo) they mostly ask me if I'm a foreigner,so, I usually introduce myself as Ndaba because I don't want to explain. The other reason is that I was born & bred in JHB, ekhaya kuKwaNdebele, I am proudly Zulu so the places where I was raised didn't give me the kind of backround I am longing for , so, calling myself KaNdaba fills that longing I have.
