In the ten or so years that I have been following PSL football, never has the league been this interesting and so unpredictable!!!!
Gone are the days when the big three, Pirates, Chips (Kwa Kwa kwa couldn't resist) or Sundowns were the only contenders for league honours. I don't know if it's the money that Absa and other sponsored have pumped into the sometimes controversial league- but the so called “smaller teams” have suddenly woken up and they are becoming forces to be reckoned with.
I'm going to try and analyses each team in the PSL in the order that they currently are in and I'll try to keep it as short as possible…..
SSU
Results driven coach, don't have big names- the players in the team are selected on merit and merit alone. Gavin knows how to bring the best out of his team and they look set to defend their title.
Star player- Elias Pelembe voted player of the season last season and he might just win that award again this year.
Hotie- Lance Davids and Excellent Walaza (I'm not into tall, skinny and light-skinned guys, so I'll pass)
Sundowns
Big names Big names and more Big names, who were just a waste of money…
glad to see that some have decided to leave the team, namely, Godfrey Sepula (used to enjoy reading his column in Soccer Laduma, Dillion Sheppard, Lerato Chabangu (still cant believe that he's so young, but what the heck he's a soccer player, so what's new) Josta Dladla (this boy has to be the cleanest player in the PSL..okay maybe 2nd after Kaizer Junior)
Back to Sundows I think they stand a good chance of winning the league.
Start player -Surprise Moriri although I'm a big fan of Esrom Nyandora.
Hotie-George Acuna (where is he vele) and the Zum-Zum
Pirates amabhakabhaka amahle!! Ezikamaghebhula, ezaghebhula umhlaba kamaspala zawushiya unje!
Eish what can I say, I love this team!!! Kumnyama kumhlophe, but they have a tendency of disappointing their fans. Nevertheless I never miss a game if they come down to Durban. I could go on and on but I will say more after tonight's game against Sundowns.
Star player- without a doubt, the maestro himself, Teko McModise, but Innocent Mdledle has time and time again proven to be one of those hard to find defenders.
Hotie- Dikgang Mabalane, Kathego Mashego, Lebohang Mothibantwa….those eyes….
Ajax
I'm very disappointed with the boys from Cape Town, after they came so close to winning the league last season, I thought that they were going to give SSU a run for their money, but with their goal-keeper going awol and their player blaksiming each other kuma changing rooms, I don't see them winning the league.
Star player- Frankin Cale and Mabhuti Khanyeza
Hotie-Doutie someone and the coach, Graig
Chiefs amakhosi amahle
Inconstancy has been their biggest downfall (well…and the hammering that was dished out by SSU- what a peaceful weekend might I add)
seriously though, I think they still stand a chance of winning the league, but Mushin needs to sort out his defenders, and get rid of Mokete Tsotetsi ASAP…the guy is a waste at the back.
Start player-man of the moment Abe Nale but Tinashe Nengomashe and Arthur Zwane are my favourites.
Hotie- Junior (I'm so over him) and this dude, eish they should give him more game time….its not rights to hide such delightful eye candy
Okay so this article is proving to be longer than I had anticipated so I will end it hear for today….
