Story 1: Makubo wants to fetch her offspring
Makubo Monyapeo lives in Mailula. She wants to find her 3 children that she left in Leshoto. Makubo had gone to Lesotho with her boyfriend, Tlontlolo, with whom it appears she had those children. However, while living in Lesotho, Tlontlolo left for Witbank, supposedly to find work, but ended up finding a wife. But life being what it is, he eventually went back to the family he had left in Lesotho, but as one would expect, the relationship was never the same. Makubo and Tlontlolo constantly fought, which pained Makubo so much, that she decide to leave for the city of gold, leaving her children behind because she had no money for passports or transport, which is why she finds herself in the situation she is in right now.
Makubo asks her niece Mapule to accompany her to Lesotho, as she does not know what she will find when she gets to Lesotho.
Arriving in Lesotho, Makubo and Mapule take a break in Maseru, while the KK team continues on to the village, where they find Thabo, Makubo’s youngest sone.
Thabo tells us that he is married to Dikeledi, and together, they have 2 children. He says that his father and two older siblings, Lereng and Samuel, have since died. His father was a good man who took care of them. According to Thabo, even at his age, he would welcome having his mother back in his love, as we all know, there's nothing like a mother's love.
When Makubo and Mapule arrive, Makubo explains that she is Lereng’s mother. An older man asks Makubo if she knows who he is, but she does not, but when he tells her who he is, she does indeed know him. The man shows him Thabo, and tells her that Lereng and Samuel, her older sons, have died. She asks where Tlontlolo is, and is told that the same fate befell him. She is also told of the many grandchildren she has. The old man then turns to Thabo and asks him why he does not greet his mother. At this point, Makubo burst out in tears, Thabo also cries, and when Mapule hugs Thabo, she tells him not to cry as they are her to fetch him. (At this point I’m like WTF? Fetch him? Anyway, I’ll come back to this)
Makubo explains that Thabo’s father’s made her suffer, and that is why she left, but she is now here to fetch him so he can die in her arms.(Again, WTF?)
She also meets Dikeledi, Thabo’s wife, as well as the children, and Dikeledi is only too happy to go along with if Thabo is going to Jozi. (Don’t couple discuss thing like relocation before such declarations?)
In her end of show interview, Makubo says she is disappointed that she did not find all her children as she was hoping that she could take all of them home. She says she realises that Thabo is suffereing, with no groceries, I’m going to stop this story here as the more I type the angrier I get. But I’ll make the following points:
1) I am not convinced by the reasons this woman gives for leaving, but even then, she takes so long to come back? I mean really!
2)Secondly, she knew that her children would no longer be spring chicken, and to go to Lesotho to fetch them is nothing short of crazy.
3)Third, she speaks of Thabo’s lack of groceries and poverty. When did she have time to make a proper assessment of his situation? And even is she is poor, yena is she wealthy enough to support Thabo and his whole family. Even worse, she was planning to take ALL her children? Hai man!
4)And lastly, Thabo!!!! Thabo is just willing to up and leave? And the wife? Hai no, angazi.
Story 2: Tswinki needs to reunite her mother with her family, for both their sakes
Tswinki stays in Soweto Dobsonville. Her, mother, Emily Ditsebe, went to Zimbabwe in 1956, with her late husband, Philip Mokoena aka Vundla. Tswinki would now like her mother to come back to South Africa to be reunited with her family, who she has not seen in over 50 years! Tswinki and her siblings came back to South Africa when they were older , but their parents remained there, and her father eventurally died, leaving her mother. She therefore wants the KK team to accompanty to Zimababwe to fetch her mtoher, and then find her family here.
Also, Tswinki is a sangoma, and to complete her “thwasing”, she needs to be united with her maternal ancestors.
They drive to Zimbabwe, where they find her mother and bring her back. The frail woman explains that the man she loved was not a ver good listener, and she could not object to nayting, so while she agree to go live in Zim, her heart remained in South Africa.
They then go to the family, and find a woman who turns out to be Tswinki’s mother’s older sister, but looks considerably younger. Even she is amazed at how frail her little sister looks. (I have no problem with people crying on KK, but Tswinki’s crying was one of those irritating “HEEE HEEE HEEE “ cries that made me want to turn off the TV.)
Anyway, Tswinki’s mother tells her sister that she’s now living in Zimbabwe, to which her sister replies that “You are not going back there”. Tswinki is also quick to agree, saying her mother has no one to go back to, which is shocking, considering that all this time, her mother has been alone in Zim anyway.
They are also told that the parents have passed away, as well as their oldest sister. Tswinki tells her new found family that she lives close by in Dobsonville, and constantly emphasizes that it’s a shack that she lives in.
All in all, this story was basic, the only shock to my system was how old Tswinki's mothe looks.
