Call me a hater but I'm gonna say this anyway...!!! Plus it's been a while since I threw a tantrum over nothing so here goes....

Everyone who reads my blog knows I love SABC 1 mara heish, these days nje, I don't know what's going on.
I got really upset while channel surfing on Saturday night and came across Puff Johnson doing red carpet interviews at the SAMA's for Music Lounge, the Fo Sho late night music show.

I understand it when we (people) act like groupies mara when it's a Television Station from a broadcaster that claims that they are "Broadcasting for Total Citizen Empowerment" then we have a problem!.

Okay, so why do I have a problem with it? Well...first of all, who is Puff Johnson and why is she relevant to SABC 1?
Really why is she relevant?
We've just been told that Emzini We Zinsizwa won't be recommissioned because the show is NOT relevant to the station anymore, so my question is, uPUFF JOHNSON yena, why is she relevant?

She last released an album in 1996, the same year we won the African Cup Of Nations so getting her is like asking Helman Mkhalele, Linda Buthelezi or Mark Fish (who is actually 2 years younger than her) to do red/yellow carpet interviews for SABC 1.

Okay, let me stop exaggerating....my problem is this:

- We have a lot of young people in SA who are talented and would love to be on Televsion. Now this "former" RnB singer leaves America (where she probably doesn't get invited to award shows coz she really just faded into obscurity) comes to SA and is now this super A list celeb that the SABC 1 (or production company or whoever is responsible) gives a presenting job to!

The thing about it is that she's American, she didn't know a thing about the people she was interviewing so obviously the interviews were a lil' awkward...

.......couldn't we get the Yo TV kids to do those interviews?
.......Or even went back to Khanyi and Chomee like last time?
.......Or gotten the Metro FM competition winner who co-presented an award with Adil to do it?
.........or ran a competition on Fo Sho for someone to do it? For Free?

In all honesty, Ms Johnson was not horrible, she was actually quite sweet and down to earth (ibingekho ezakumphakamisa kakade) but the bottom line is that if she got paid then I have a problem with it....

The most painful to watch was her interview with "Rhythm Elements"! Kwa kwa kwa kwa imagine Puff with her american accent and R.E with their Pitori accent...sjoe, that was a killa!

Hayi, someone send an email to Natasha @ YBF and tell her to come get her sister!

(NB: If Puff Johnson was NOT paid for that job then I take it half of my complaint back!)

Go around in SA and mention the name Puff Johnson to anyone and they would know who you're talking about even if they can't tell you one of her songs but they know her. Ask 10 people excluding your friends/family/work colleagues who you are and 10 out of 10 do not know you.

Relevant means being connected with what is being discussed or dealt with. Since you said she was doing interviews at the SAMA's for Music Lounge, the Fo Sho late night music show, can you really say you don't see how she's relevant to that show? Would you have preferred Marks Maponyane to do the interviews since as he's relevant?.

I am sure if Marks Maponyane would have presented the show....then it will be his behind being grilled here than Puff's. There is a lot of talent out there and there are local presenters who would have done a way better job considering they know the industry and the people in it, most of all they can prenounce the names and can also speak Venac with some schlebs that cant speak the queen's language...which makes sense since SABC1 is not an international channel.

From where I'm standing it seems like BS has issues with Puff Johnson and is using TVSA to further her hatred utilising the leverage that she has on this site, if she says she likes Gareth of 5fm then everybody like him and is gonna listen to the show and if she hates Casandra/Puff then everyone would follow like a herd of sheeps.

I strongly believe in constructive criticism, something along the lines of Puff Johnson you doing a kak job and irritate the *bleep!* outta me when doing interviews but since I am a South African and know the culture and what makes the SA people tick I suggest you do 1,2,3 and 4 to make yourself a better presenter. If she were to read this article now what would she learn?

KaSizulu bare "Akukho silima sindlebende kwaso" I'm no exception to that saying, accept that I will always be on the opposite site in every article to provide the other view, this doesn't mean that I'm always right/wrong but if people can handle the argument in a healthy manner I will admit in the end that I am wrong.

Some recommend that I be ignored, I'm not surprised at all by this as it is a disease most South African are suffering from. They ignore everything, in 97 I fought off a guy who was trying to rape a young woman while other people ignored the situation, 2001 I got arrested for fighting with the guys who were stabbing while pickpocketing another guy. Few years back a neighbour opened an assault case against me for beating up her son for beating her up.

Last month people mostly women said I'm not gonna live long, I think I'm better, I think I'm superman for fighting with some gang for beating up a young girl in full view of the community because she deserved it. The list is endless and I have also taken a decision now to be like everyone and ignore whatever that is happening.

in your critisism of BS, you were misinformed as to her role (called her a journalist) - i merely pointed out that you shouldn't base your expectations of her writing on her being a journalist - coz she isn't....she's a blogger. there is a distinct difference there.

i believe that i was constructively criticising you AND clarifying issues , so you could adjust your expectations of the writing you find on this site... no one here is a journalist - but EVERYONE here is opinionated, strongly so... and this is where they come to air those opinions.

so don't run and hide and become an anti-hero because the other bloggers came down on you - it comes with the territory of our beloved TVSA. carry on being the shero you are, (you described some acts of serious courage that you have done - very admirable, seriously speaking) - but being that shero includes being able to take a bit of 'robust' correction/constructive criticism from ama-'blockers'

Lastly, I usually enjoy reading your sensible and fresh comments on the site but I was quite taken aback by how ridiculous your first comment on this blog was. For a minute, I thought someone was replying using your name, also taking into consideration that the usual disclaimer was MIA.
