Fringe: Season Recap

It was the night before Fringe and we were all waiting for the final episode of this curious show. As we may or may not know, tomorrow is the last episode of the current season of Fringe.

Thankfully for us, the Americans have renewed the show's contract so a second season is definitely on for next year. Now I would like to look back at the show ,and point out what exactly makes Fringe such a cool show and what, at times makes it so infuriating (I stress, at times).

The Pro’s first. What makes Fringe so cool is the Abram’s, Orci and Kurtzmann connection. The writer ,director, producing trio, know how to deliver good stories and action. Just check out Lost ,Allias, MI:3 and Star trek for references.

When these guys are cooking, they come up with clever and interesting plots like the one they had when they introduced the character of the Observer, the episode with the guys who aged rapidly and the build up to the reveal of the terrorist organisation.

Even the whole concept of Fringe, making an entire series based on fringe science. Stuff that could actually happen if we had the right technology or if all our scientist were morally depraved beings. The tension of what is plausible and the limits of scientific advances and the moral and ethical repercussions are very interesting to watch.

The other thing that Fringe had that worked quite nicely it’s the cast, Walter Bishop, Olivia and Bishop Junior.Have nice chemistry .Although Olivia sometimes comes across as a lesbian-come-terminator with no feelings whatsoever. The only emotion she knows is getting ticked off by her boss. But when she’s thrown in with the Bishops, she sparkles.

Walter (what's his name) is a very great and talented actor, who gives Walter the comedic edge and tragic note that the character is so filled with.

Peter ,well is just plain Peter and Joshua Jackson does his best to make him likeable. Although season one did not do justice to Peter as a character. Peter’s story has really taken a backseat to Olivia ,outside his relationship with his old man we really do not know much about him.

Which brings me to the point that irks me about the series: not knowing. Some of the McGuffen or plot devices that are used to propel the story are left unexplained for ages. For example,William Bell ,Walter Bishops former partner. We’ve never seen the guy, we don’t know what motivates him ,we don’t even know if he cares that his old partner is out and about investigate crimes he may be implicated in.

Same thing goes with the Obsever and the terrorist group. A lot is left unexplained in Fringe, mostly due to the structure of the show were the guys don’t always go for a continious narrative episode by episode. But hey it may irk me but it does not take away from how great this show is.Cause when something is explained ,it opens up a whole can of worm that one was never expecting.

So tomorrow night is the Finale and a little birdy told me, it has one or three great surprises for all those who have been faithfully watching the show. It also features a clever explanation for some the creepy things that have been going bump in the night. Or ja for all the TV connoisseurs, a classic TV icon also makes an appearance. We will see tomorrow if the finale does deliver or infuriate. sweet.

Hi Tlaki - welcome!

I'm a total Fringe-aholiic!

My absolute best was the episode two or so weeks ago with the guy who's emotions affected everyone and they all wanted to commit suicide. Found it SO true, like it really does happen in real life where emotions are so catchy.

It was almost as if the episode exposed the emotional stuff we don't often see or acknowledge and put it all out in the open.

Ah the fnale came and left,i honestly felt it was a bit of a downer.although we got the idea that walter snatched peter from an alternate reality, and MrSpock turned out to be william Bell,it was just not enough for me.
we never got answers to what truely motivated ZFT,it cant just be about prooving their special. If so why get olivia involved into the wole mess? then there's the observer.what the hell? can we get some answers on this guy.
anyhow it will be cool to see where does season 2 take us,i wonder if theres a different walter in the reality william bell is inhabiting and if he will ever show up?
is there more to having the two towers still up or was it just done for the shock value?we will see season two, next year

i stopped watching Fringe about a month ago....too many questions and i am not a very patient person when it comes to TV....tell me the story, let me get where you are going, don't annoy me with all these irky hanging issues e.g. MD(what are they really on about - are they good or bad?), why Olivia? Walter is supposed 2 hv develop all this science? and Peter....Oh...and don even mention the bald OBSERVER! Flip....
