Watching the PSL End of Season Awards felt like watching a “Telkom, MTN,Nedbank, Absa infomercial”...phew, way too many colours for my eyes! It didn't help that Ms Carol Manana, who co-hosted with Robert Marawa, had to mess up an otherwise okay dress with those multi coloured scarfs that went with the sponsors' brand colours. Sigh! As if it wasn't enough that the “room” had to be lit in matching colours too!
The show kicked off with acrobatic dancers showing off what their mamas gave them...literally!
Soon after Mister or is it Dr Irvin Khoza (and his crooked tie) gave a speech and as is the case whenever Ntate Khoza has the microphone, there were a couple of chuckles from the audience. Love this dude!
Whenever the two hosts appeared on screen, I tried to look past their make up but it was kinda hard. Am I the only one who thinks make up should be subtle and not be in your face? Ummm... excuse the pun!
I was a bit disappointed to see all those empty seats at the Lyric Theatre though, where were all the sporting fans? The absent players? Or could they not stomach watching all those winners receive all that money?
Heh, speaking of money, I hope that Richard Henyekane and Gert Schalkwyk will invest part of their winnings in decent suits. What they were wearing at the awards was just not acceptable! Was the dress code not specified on the invites?
Richard if you can't impress Joel Santana with scoring goals then try being stylish bhuti coz rumour has it that our beloved (not?) coach is a metrosexual of some sort & might just select because of your fashion sense! Don't say I did'nt tip you!
As for Gert, dude, ons weet jy werk in die Vrystaat maar kom aan my broer, you're a professional player and you can't tell us you don't have a decent suit in your wardrobe! Unless they told you, you were going on a movie date?
I know the purpose of the whole awards show was really just to hand over prizes/trophies to the season's best performers but I just think the show in general was dull. I had issues with a couple of things:
- the nominee names not fitting on my 42 inch screen (lol), a friend of mine sms'd to say she thought the problem was just on her 37cm screen.tl tl tl tl tl. Unacceptable, the producers can't tell us they didn't spot that!
- There was too much talking from the “sponsors” and their awkward/ complicated titles , no wonder Mr Greg Garden from Nedbank ended up laughing at his own jokes. Alone.
- There were no acceptance speeches from the winners and I understand time constraints but not even a speech from our “Footballer/Coach of The Year” or “Team Of The Season” representative?
- How those lucky enough to be given a chance to speak made it so obvious that they were reading from the “autocue?” Can't we all just learn this one thing from Obama!?!
I found the lack of “winners' speeches” a bit weird, so against the tradition of award shows and it looked kinda silly having all those people just come up, pick up their awards and disappear off the stage. Perhaps this part was left out due to the fact that some of our players have major problems in expressing themselves?
Well, I blame the clubs for that because “communicating” with either the media or fans is part and parcel of being a footballer so I strongly believe that somehow, clubs should include that in their “training package”!
Someone needs to tell our South African players that it's okay for them to speak to Robert or Marks Maponyane in their mother tongue...really guys, it's fine!
Oh, I got carried away, this is supposed to be about the awards! Well, I have to congratulate the organizers for giving awards to the National First Division's top goalscorer and the winning team, must have been great for them to get recognition on that platform. Welcome Back to Jomo Cosmos!!!
The awards were boring, yeah, I almost fell asleep watching them. I guess the PSL has those “sexy models and their micro minis” to thank for the audience not dozing off..
Or maybe I'm just bitter coz I wasn't invited...sigh!On a totally, totally, different note...

I'm really “relieved” that Coca Cola Soccerzone on SABC 1 will be off our screens for the next 3 weeks! As if the way Walter Mokoena says his name is not horrible enough, the man is too loud and his “Momento Brillianto” is high on my list of the most irritating things on Television. I hope when he comes back he will have enough sense to know that wishing his family members a happy birthday on a sports show has nothing to do with the “love of the game”. (this happened a few weeks ago, but I can't stress it enough!!!)
Lastly, to all those unfortunate South Africans who are relying on SABC 1 for the Confederation Cup Games, good luck, my prayers are with you! I hope you will not experience the same shocking viewing as those soccer fans who watched the Derby and saw Tshepo Mabona's face on screen with Robert Marawa's voice in the background. Ahem.
Lastly, Lastly, Lastly....
Lamontville Golden Arrows,
besides your actual url www.lgafc.co.za being a disaster nje on its own, your website is a huge ass MESS!!!I was ready to say the Celtics one (gosh, the greeeeeeeen!!!) was the worst mara haikhona, I can't describe the irritation I felt when I got to the Arrows website.
Never mind that it was last updated on 9th May, Ijust don't have words...it lacks something! Do something! I tried to click on the HISTORY tab, nothing! PARTNERS, nothing! Then I saw something called "GALLARIES" *rolling my eyes at the spelling*
