Episode Title: 3rd Degree Feedback
Broadcast date: 2 June 2009
Tonight 3rd degree gives feedback and does a follow-up on some of the show's most controversial recent stories.
In February 2009, the show covered the story of
South Africa’s heaviest man. At over 300kgs, Big G needed surgery to help him lose weight. His surgery over, 3rd Degree catches up withhim again as he takes his first tentative steps out of the bedroom he’s been cooped up in for over a year.
Earlier this year, the show also revealed that
two doctors in the North West Province were conducting their practices along Apartheid lines - one surgery for whites, one for blacks. After the broadcast the Equality Court took up the matter, as did the Health Professionals Council of South Africa. The show follows up to find out what's been done to ensure that these kinds of practices are put to an end.
Over a year ago Johan Nel went on a rampage killing four black people in the Swartruggens area, injuring several others. Acclaimed criminal psychologist Dr Irma Labuschagne, who gave evidence in Nel’s trial, provides insights into the 18-old killer’s state of mind on that horrific day.
Also featured, the story of a woman who was gang raped in Thembisa over four years ago, yet she has still to see justice. The trial has been postponed over 20 times, and her alleged attackers roam the streets of Thembisa. 3rd Degree investigates why it's taken the courts so long to get the trial underway, despite ongoing protests by gender activists.
3rd Degree is on e.tv on Tuesdays at 21h30.
