I'm a sucker for lists! Rich lists, Sexiest Lists, whatever list you give, I will read. So, when I saw an issue of Football Arena last week talking about a list of 50 Most Influential People In South African Football, I wanted to take out my R4.95 and buy but I remembered how disappointed I was after religiously buying their first 3 issues (all in the name of supporting a South African product), so I thought, hayikhona.
Well this week, a friend of mine gave me a copy he had received from someone so thanks to him I was finally able to read through their list :-)
The 50 Most Influential People In South African Football according to Walter Mokoena's magazine/newspaper, FOOTBALL ARENA are listed as follows:
- Kjetil Siem – PSL CEO
- Kaizer Motaung – Kaizer Chiefs MD
- Natasha Thsichlas – PSL Executive Committee Member
- Raymond Hack – SAFA CEO
- Ace Ngcobo – PSL General Manager
- Danny Jordaan – FIFA 2010 CEO
- Mike Ntombela – Adidas Football Manager
- Prof Ronnie Schloss – PSL Operations Officer
- Rob Moore – Football Agent
- Romeo Khumalo – Vodacom SA Commercial Executive Director
- Dr.Irvin Khoza – Orlando Pirates Owner
- Molefi Oliphant – SAFA President
- Mike Makaab – Football Agent
- Glyn Binkin – Football Agent

- Mark Gleeson – Football Journalist
- Molefi Mika – Sowetan Sports Editor
- Makhenkesi Stofile – SA Sports Minister
- Mvuzo Mbebe – SABC Head of Programming
- Robert Marawa – Sports Presenter
(eish, I know it's his job but I feel like he's more than just a presenter. The presenter bit makes me uncomfortable. I need a suitable title for Robert, presenter doesn't cut it, he's not a presenter)
- Jario Leal – Bafana Bafana Assistant Coach
- Jazzman Mahlakgane – Football Agent
(He's the man behind Teko Modise the brand.)
- Peter du Toit – Publisher
(See my comment on Richard Maguire. Peter's with Soccer Laduma & FA thought it would be painful to mention that *rolling my eyes*)
- Teko Modise – Football player
- Imtiaz Patel – SuperSport CEO
- Jomo Sono – Jomo Cosmos Owner
- Pitso Mosimane – Bafana Bafana Assistant Coach
- Richard Maguire – Editorial Director
( I found it weird that they named him but wouldn't say where he's working. Well, it's Kick Off)
- Joel Santana – Bafana Bafana Head Coach
- John Commitis – Ajax Cape Town Owner
- Lucas Radebe – Soccer Legend (Mmmm...at that title)
- Stanley Tshabalala – SAFA Head of Youth Development
- Mohammed Mubarak – SAFA VP
- Walter Mokoena – Owner of Mokoena Sports Media
(So Walter compiles a list and sommer throws his name in there. Tjo mara ke if he's powerful he's powerful neh? lol)
- Aaron Mokoena – Football player
- Stan Matthews – SuperSport United CEO
- Patrice Motsepe – Mamelodi Sundowns Owner
- Bobby Motaung – Kaizer Chiefs Team Manager
- Sylvester Ndaba – TV Personality
(I wonder if he's proud of that title)
- George Khonou – Platinum Stars Chairman
- Happy Ntshingila – ABSA Marketing Director
(Okay!)
- Sipho Nkumane – Bafana Bafana Team Manager
- Davide Cardrelli – Nike SA GM
- Zola Majavu – PSL Prosecutor
(Oh nkosi, this guy loves the sound of his voice. Everytime he speaks to Marawa he always, & i'm not exaggerating, he always talks about how he must come into the studio to explain this or that. With that said, I've learnt quite a lot from him in terms of rules of the game and how discipline is applied)
- Kirsten Nematandani – SAFA Head of Referees
- Serame Letsoaka – South Africa U-20 Coach
- S’busiso Mseleku – City Press Sports Editor
- llan Sobel – Coca-Cola Marketing Executive
- Mato Madlala – Golden Arrows owner
- Michael Murphy – Attorney
Okay, I would love to talk about FOOTBALL ARENA in general and my thoughts on it but that deserves it's own blog! Any thoughts on the list? Anyone they left out? Who shouldn't even have been on the list to begin with?My comment:
"Well, it depends what you mean by Influential".
