Keeper

On Saturday, 20 June 2009 when Bafana Bafana were due to take on Spain in their last Group Stage match in Bloemfontein, Itumeleng Khune was celebrating his 22nd birthday.
When we got to Bloem and heard his management team, Prof'sionalz Marketing were going to the team's hotel to throw him a surprise birthday "hello", my partner and I tagged along for a chance to wish the birthday boy well.

No stories, here are the pics and please note they were taken with my phone so no complaints asseblief!

cakeee

The birthday cake that later had to be removed from camp to avoid temptation.

bday

Posing with the birthday boy!

boy

Birthday boy getting gifts. Excuse the quality...

shild

Two of my favourite players in the team! Siphiwe is the sweetest thing ever and really guys, stop saying Teko  is arrogant, he's just confident.
Nice teeth General!

Pakkk

True Story
Me:
Good luck with the game tonight, Bernard.
Bernard Parker: You're welcome.

*cough cough*

Tjo

I'm so proud of these boys man!
People please leave Gaxa's hair alone, I think it suits him...and mina as long as he still rocks in the pitch, I don't care what's going on with his hair.
Katlego wa bantwana!!

spitj

Khosi4lyf!!!
When we took this pic, we didn't know that he'd be in the pitch for 1 second but since we can't change what happened, we can only try to find the positive in the situation and that is :
Siphiwe has another cap to his name and that will be worth something one day.

go

After the birthday wishes were said and done, it was off to the Free State Stadium for SA's mammoth task against Spain.
My boys played their hearts out.

team

Boys warming up before the match.

bloem

The people of Mangaung did not disappoint and were there in huge numbers.

crowd

Even though I've seen the stadium fuller.....

Support

My captain, Jimmy Tau was there to give support and it was so cool to see him smiling again after the traumatic year he's just had.

coach

Also ran into coach Khabo Zondo, even though I'm not sure who or what he's coaching right now.
He kept us in stiches the whole time... awesome guy!

pic43

A toast to my Men Of The Moment, Team SA on making it to the semifinals of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup!

Cheers!

23 Jun 2009 07:37

mna im sorry but im not holding my hopes hight our team has a tendancy of celebrating in the playground when the match is supposed to be on, hhayi shame i hope Brazil doesnt  shoot to Khune becase if they do and he catches the ball, our defenders will be dancing like supportes and before we could even say"what a save', they will be a goal.

we should have won that match, Khune was the best, Teko Confed cup is not meant for you or must i say any cup is not meant for you, i wonder why this Santana grandpa doeant give Simphiwe at least 20min, because that baby boy can play bathong

Those will be great news, Simphiwe , Teko and Parker  made such a good combination the other day.

i wish they suspended Aaron, Sibaya is far better than him

Brown Shuga
23 Jun 2009 08:32

Hawu Kakapana chill, LOL. BA is just confirming what we all know, that Teko is not having the best of times in this tournament. I think it's nerves...knowing that the whole world is watching him, scouts too etc.
Personally I understand, there is just too much pressure on the boy and we really can't expect him to carry the whole team. He's just having a bad day at the office, nothing unusual.

23 Jun 2009 08:32

Off Topic ... dont you guys just love Fikile Mbalula for his statement after the complains concerning security in hotels

'If you bring people into the hotel as friends, you must take responsibility for them. So if they turn out to be security-unfriendly, then it is unfortunate - we can't follow you up to your room."

Brown Shuga
23 Jun 2009 08:35

<<<<i wish they suspended Aaron, Sibaya is far better than him>>>> We have a better chance of getting rid of Mokoena via an injury during training (that's where he gets to touch the ball) or accidental LAXATIVE in his food than getting him suspended. How can you get suspended when you are nowhere near the action! lol

Best-Achiever
23 Jun 2009 08:36

Kakapana... relax my brother, i like Teko a lot but this cup shame is not for him, he start the game playing with his feet, try many times to score but his foot just goes parallel to the net the he start playing with his heart forgetting that the heart will never score  a goal that will be counted...LOL

he must just calm down and stop trying too hard becase he is honestly loosing it.

Did you guys hear what Walter stupid Mokoena said after the Spain Match??? I was watching on Supersport and decided to change the channel. Only to hear Walter say to Steve Kompela

"I honestly think that we should fire the coach and fire our Captain, they are not taking us anywhere" Certainly get someone who will be able to motivate the team in our next game and possibly a new coach after the confederations cup"

Can you imagine. I think he has a point about aaron but to blatently say it like that on National TV- If he aint fired then the SABC is a useless broadcaster.

Steve tried so hard to avoid answering Walter when he asked him what he thinks. Steve just said as a coach I would understand that we have a certain way to do things etc etc... Yoh Walter

23 Jun 2009 08:47

why cnt dis santana thing try mixmatching players ye??? Maybe a different combination could create goals, instead of using the same players, same lineup, and even when he finally substitute he brings in the same players. we all know the starting line up and who will be the first substitute ( katlego Mashego) , then he is followed by  Sphiwe Tshabalala, the old man with a clay nose dsnt have creativity !!!!!!!!!!!

lady gaga
23 Jun 2009 08:52

@GML

I also felt he was wrong saying that on National TV, those are people who must encourage us to beleive in Bafana, bt if he is going to say what he feels just like dat well i dnt know.

We understand he was frustrated and angry, but what he did or said is not on!!!!!!
he must learn to put personal feelings aside when he's working, nd try telling his friends when he gets home.............

23 Jun 2009 09:03

Guys, on the Walter Mokoena issue....
I don't understand why people are so SHOCKED by that. TV /Radio Presenters are people with feelings, thoughts and emotions as well and mina I don't see anything wrong with Walter expressing his views and opinions.
Just because he said it does not mean it should happen, we all express our opinions, why shouldn't he?

Robert expresses his opinion about how bad SAFA is all the time. How is that different from Walter saying Santana/Aaron are bad?
Robert is ALWAYS defending and protecting SANTANA on his show, why is no one making a fuss about that? Because Walter is expressing a different view?

The SABC would be VERY stupid if they fired or suspended Walter over that comment because he clearly (so I heard) said that "In his opinion", he did not say AS THE SABC WE THINK SANTANA & AARON must go.

We are such a sensitive nation!

Mina I'd rather have Walter saying Santana must go than hear him saying "Walttttttttttttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr Mokoena".

On another note, perhaps Walter Mokoena should have saved that comment for his magazine FOOTBALL ARENA seeing that it lacks so much CONTENT!

GML
23 Jun 2009 09:14

I agree with you BS, But what I think should have happened is that they should, people like Walter and Robert, be motivating us and trying to get maximum support for Bafana. The thing is if Robert talks about SAFA ans so on he gives them a chance to comment about these things. Walter just blatantly said it with no platform to have his statement or opinion discussed.

There are people who feel the way Walter feels- I feel the same about Aaron. But we have to look at the change that Santana has brought to the national team and focus on that. Had he said i hate the fact that Santana makes late substitutes would have been better.

If he had the platform to have these sort of things discussed then it would be ok, like on Coca cola soccer zone or whatever it's called. he owuld have guests debate it.....

Khune well done but note that you saves the penalty you creates: Why im saying that
The ball goes out into play and Mokoena loses Villa again. It was not Booth fault, look at the replay again. Never mind, look at my replay below. Mokeona is making Villa, Booth is covering the centre.Look how he allows Villa to pull away from him to score. Its criminal.  Mokoena is another seed that grows to become a huge problem in our BafanaX2. im officially pissed off now with him.

Yoh Walter

Well, Walter Mokoena is suspended that is why Tshepo Mabona was presenting soccer zone on monday, that is according to today's edtion is The Citizen

No wonder SABC is in a down ward spiral and I don’t feel sorry for them. How can you suspend somebody for expressing his own personal opinion?

Remember when Robert Marawa invited super sport chief at the sabc studio to come and explain the fiasco concerning the soccer rights and he was suspended.

Remember John Pearlman for exposing Kaiser Kganyago for lying on national radio and what happened to him. You wonder why sabc is getting sub-standard presenters? Precisely because they are not allowed to express their opinions.

Read below from News 24

Walter Mokoena (File)
Johannesburg - SABC sports presenter Walter Mokoena was suspended following the comments he made about Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana and captain Aaron Mokoena, The Citizen newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Mokoena said Santana and "Mbazo", the captain, must go after the national team's last Confederations Cup group match loss to Spain in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

His comments sparked a public uproar from fans and even some radio personalities who said comments of that nature were not acceptable.

Mokoena is the anchor of the Coca-Cola Soccer Zone show every Monday on SABC 1.

"The SABC has stopped scheduling Walter Mokoena and he has been informed of that and given an opportunity to respond to issues that were put to him.

"All the necessary steps will be followed to make sure that all the programmes he was assigned to will run smoothly until this matter is finalised," said the public broadcaster spokesman Kaizer Kganyago in a statement.

I still apploaud him for having guts and  I don't think he was taking sides, he was just stating what I and most South Africans feel about the National coach and the captain.  I know some might feel that we are doing ok, Santana did change the way we play but are we winning games???  It's like writing an exam and you know the pass mark is 50 and you get 49 and you console yourself by saying at least i got 49, it's better than 0.

who ask for his view, we all have different views , but you find the right place and right time to express them, SABC made him what he is, if he had something to say he should have waited until they ask for his opinion.

mina guys i am not against what he thinks or feel ,he is entitled to his opinion ,the question is who ask him? did he have to say it on National Television the Brand he works for? , from my world things like these are discussed in a close boardroom meetings , that if we need to discuss it, which on this case ,i doubt if it was his place to open his mouth about this,

NEXT TIME HE MUST KEEP HIS OPINIONS TO HIMSELF AND DISCUSS IT OVER THE DRINKS WITH HIS BUDDYS

we understand that what he said is what he feels, but the problem is he is not in that position to say things like that, in our eyes he must always say positive thingsdats his job, not critisise for the whole world to hear.

he should have waited for the show to end then tell u Steve Khompela, we all heard u Steve, he didn't want to say anything bad on tv  but i believe he has his own views about the team...........

That is not the point, the point is was Walter at fault for expressing his views or was his views in conflict with the policy of sabc? If it is the policy issue, then the sabc must come out clearly with the policy regarding personal views.

As far as I know, only the CEO represents the views of the company. Please don’t tell me the spin doctors represent the views of the company. As you know the sabc is without leadership as we speak.

cleve
24 Jun 2009 10:54

Realist you must understand that when Walter is sitting on that chair, he IS the SABC. He represents them. He shouldn't have accepted the job in the first place if he wanted to express his views. These people are given a script for a reason, if it was about you then there would be no script at all and you could say what you want to say. He signed a contract and he must stick to it. If he violates that then the SABC  must fire him. They make them sign that because media is a POWERHOUSE,  you must be carefull of what you say.

They can't do that, would you like your contract with your employer to be made public. We all know what is expected of us when we sign the contract and why must it be made public.

As for the script, which scripts are talking about?
They have some kind of script that they have to follow.

What I want to know is, are the talk show hosts, dj and presenters not allowed expressing their own personal opinions?

No it's about the kind of journalist you are. If you are a DJ you have to express your opinions sometimes because that's what keeps your show going.

Presenters it's a no, no especially for things such as sport and news there is no room for personal opinions unless you are a guest. That is how I see it, it's not a FACT.
