LostEpisode 516The Incident, Part 1So much happened. I have no idea how this is going to play out, and I am not sure I even want to speculate right now. For once, it’s just not a setup episode for a finale, and we got some interesting answers.
Let’s start with Jacob. Jacob, we learn, is ancient. He’s been around for hundreds of years and was on the island when the Black Rock landed (although how it got to the middle of the island remains a mystery). We also learn that Jacob had been present for moments in Kate’s, Sayid’s, Sawyers and Suns and Jin’s life. Oh yes, and he’s also made an appearance in Illana’s life.
Apart from our mysterious Jacob, we also follow 4 different stories. Back in 1977 and onn the sub, Kate tries to convince Sawyer that he needs to go back and stop Jack. But Sawyer isn’t budging, insisting that he and Juliet are heading for the mainland. But Juliet has other plans and knocks out the Dharma goon and the set themselves free. They overpower the captain and instruct him to raise the sub. They leave the sub and head for the island.
Once they’ve landed, they try and figure out where they are when Vincent appears, running and barking happily towards Sawyer. But he’s not alone; it seems that Vincent has been living with Rose and Bernard. Rose and Bernard take Sawyer and co to their little hut in the middle of nowhere…. Wait… hold on a moment…. is that not Jacob’s hut????????
Anyway, Rose and Bernard decline joining the expedition and Sawyer, Kate and Juliet leave.
Meanwhile, Jack and Sayid are still with Richard and Eloise. Sayid is reading a manual which tells them how to remove the plutonium core, which our Super Sayid promptly does. They head off through the tunnels when finally Richard knocks out one of the hollow walls, revealing the room that we know lies underneath Ben’s cabin.
However, Richard knocks Ellie out, sending Jack and Sayid on their own. In Dharmaville, everyone’s being evacuated, so Jack and Sayid dress in Dharma overalls and head out. But Roger Linus recognizes Sayid and shoots him. All hell breaks loose and a shootout ensues. Jack and Sayid are rescued by Hurley, Jin and Miles in the Dharma VW bus. They head towards the Swan when Hurley brings the vehicle to a grinding halt. Standing in the middle of the path are Sawyer, Juliet and Kate.
In 2007, Locke is still leading his Others to Jacob. Locke tells Richard that he’s leading them all to Jacob so that he can thank him. Locke later questions Ben and wants to know why he (Ben) didn’t tell Richard his plan to kill Jacob. Ben tells him about Alex-monster and that is when Locke tells Ben that he (Ben) will be the one who kills Jacob.
Elsewhere on the island, Illana and her crew have Frank captive. They are hauling the huge crate around and Frank wants to know what is in it. They show him (but not us). Illana leads them to Jacob’s hut with the gray powder around it. We see that the circle has been broken and Illana discovers that Jacob is no longer in the hut. But he’s left them a clue as to where he will be. They torch the hut and set of for Four-toes, which is where I am assuming we will find Jacob.
Key points from this episode:
• Jacob. I am so disappointed. I had all these theories that I spent hours formulating as to who Jacob was… and they’re all wrong!! Jacob is someone we have never met before. Oh ok, I lie. I’m not all that disappointed at all. I think that it’s quite cool that he’s someone we don’t know…. It puts a different spin on things.
So now we know what he looks like at least. We still have no clue as to who he is, what he’s doing on the island… or how he got there. How old is he? Why doesn’t he die? And why was he interfering in our Losties lives? Although you can’t really say that he was interfering in their lives… it was more like he was guiding them towards a path that would lead them to the island. Why would he do that?
It’s fairly obvious that our Losties are quite significant to the island. Considering the ways and means in which they reached the island, be it through Flight 815 or Flight 316, things have happened to ensure that they reach the island.
• Illana works for Jacob?? If we go by what we’ve seen of Jacob’s conversation with Illana, we have to assume that she is on that island because he’s asked her to be – which means that he orchestrated Sayid’s return to the island. And not Ben like I initially thought.
Why does he want these people on the island?
• Furthermore, the guy at the beginning of the episode spoke of a loophole. What loophole? And a loophole to what?!?!?! Who is that guy?? Personally, I think its ole Smokey.
• Locke wants Ben to kill Jacob. What?!?!?!?! Locke’s reasoning (to Ben) is that Ben has done everything the island wanted, had to watch his daughter die for the island and his reward was to be banished. Funnily enough, I see the point there. Ben has sacrificed a lot for this island.
Hmmm. I am not sure about this Locke. He’s so … different, so confident. Even the way he carries himself is different. Here again, my speculation is that Locke is dead, and this is Locke-monster instead.
• Juliet again does something to help Kate get a point across. Poor Juliet, her heart broke right in front of us. I’m convinced that she believes that Sawyer still loves Kate, and maybe he does. But Juliet, don’t give up so easily.
Yes, a lot happened in this episode; and I know I have covered very little. But apart from the big Jacob issue, it’s kinda pointless to speculate about blowing up hydrogen bombs when we know we’ll know the answer next week. I cannot wait for it.
Anyway, here is
what we learnt this week:
• Jacob is not someone we know
• There is supposedly a loophole in the scheme of things
• Locke wants Ben to kill Jacob
• Illana went looking for Jacob and he’s left her a clue
• Rose and Bernard and Vincent (Yay Vincent) are alive and jumped through time as well. (How did they know that they’re 30 years in the past anyway?)
• Juliet fears for her relationship with Sawyer.
• Richard says that he doesn’t age because Jacob made him so.
• Jacob has been in 5 of our Losties lives so far.
New Questions this week:
• All the Jacob questions – who, what, when, how and why???
• Will Jack be stopped? Do we even want him to be stopped?
• Who is Illana and is she working for Jacob?
• What does he want or need her help for?
• Why is Frank important?
There is no trivia this week as I have not had the courage to browse the site I usually get it from.
I cannot wait for part 2 of this finale. Hurry up, next week.
