Coming up on Carte Blanche on Sunday (5 September, 2009):

Rea Vaya

A few days into the launch and a new “rea vaya” bus already had a bullet through the windscreen. Bus Rapid Transport systems operate successfully in many parts of the world, but could this work in South Africa, with our deep-rooted taxi sub-culture?
Carte Blanche rides the bus to find out if a new era of first-class public transport can become a reality.

Presenter: Derek Watts
Producer: Joy Summers
Journalist: Xoli Matomela

Boswell

The Natal Zoological Gardens, owned by long-time circus man Brian Boswell, has been in the news for keeping animals in what wildlife officials described as “intolerable conditions”.

Carte Blanche finds out what this animal welfare battle is all about and checks up on relocated chimps, Jessica and Charles, at their new home.

Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender
Producer: Hein Ungerer

Second Life

Many people have had fantasies of being someone else, looking like someone else, or living an entirely different life. The virtual world of Second Life - a computer-generated environment that seems real to the user – is a popular escape from the humdrum for some. Carte Blanche takes on a new life in a new world.

Presenter: Derek Watts
Producer: Carol Albertyn Christie
Journalist: Jo Munnik

Caret Blanche is on M-Net on Sundays at 19h00.

Does anyone have a Second Life? I'm super-curious about it all. I hear it's very labour intensive on one's computer though.  I just don't get how people can spend real money in ti though - I get that you could get a job and work to earn virtual cash but to actually spend money to buy virtual things in the world's CRAZY.
