Coming up on
Cutting Edge tonight:
Episode Title: A Rose Among Thorns
Broadcast date: 8 October 2009
Have you ever been discriminated against, sexually and physically abused as a result? This week Cutting Edge speaks to women who have paid a high price for being different.
Our Constitution says that no one can be discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation but in reality, lesbians especially in townships, continue to be subjected to "corrective" rape.
The show visits a Soweto Lesbian, Gay and Intersex pride event where different people in different sectors share their views. There's also a visit to a rural village in Mpumalanga where a 20 year-old woman is still awaiting justice after being raped by locals for being a lesbian.
Also: an interview with members of Few, an organization that represents black lesbians to find out if their work is yielding any results in townships.
The documentary is written and produced by Thuli Nhlapo, edited by Buyani Mthembu and filmed by Sam Msibi and Byron Taylor.
Cutting Edge is on SABC1 on Thursdays at 21h30.
