BBA-Rev: My Take On What Happened

Thank you for visiting my blog and your PMs, emails and comments. I completely agree with you that Africans needs to unite, remove the virtual borders, emancipate their minds and kill what colonialism created. Africans can only progress when they remove the hatred inbred by colonialism. Like I said on my blog " I would have closed this blog down hours ago had I been here to referee because everyone that took out the time to type stuff that are disgusting is wrong. we can't progress if we just hate! even cyber-ly..."

I was just as gutted as most of the people that came onto my blog to see all those hateful replies. I have a 9-5 job and could not babysit the blog to shut it down when the mess erupted, so I caught it way too late for me to do much - only option was to shut down the blog. Which I eventually did!

I have never been of the opinion that the people that are contestants of the big brother reality show represent a whole country of people as diverse as siblings in a family. I see them and observe them as individuals who want to enrich themselves and come on the show to entertain the viewers for a chance to get the money. None of us will even see a red cent of their winnings in our hands.

If you have followed my blog for the past 4 years, you would realise that I have not attacked nations and countries but the contestants as individuals. I have said over and over and over and over and over again through the 4 years of covering the show that it doesn't matter where the individual comes from, as soon as they enter the house, I view them as an individual and I couldn't care if they crawled from under a rock in the Kalahari desert or came out a crocodiles mouth in the Zambezi river!

Even in a family of 3 siblings, everybody is different and represent themselves when they step out of their homes. I refuse to label the Ugandan/Kenyan/Botswana/Namibian contestant as an illustration of the entire Ugandan/Kenyan/Batswana/Namibian population.

I have read the replies on my blog a number of times to figure out how the mess started. I have taken offence at the comments made by the Nigerian bloggers who on times have always insinuated that South African women are cheap and easy because as GROOVY (the Nigerian blogger) commented "Nigerian men would only sleep with your women cos they are easy which your representatives have always shown" and Dorothy777 (another Nigerian blogger) commented"that's why 50% of SA ladies are married to Niger men mostly of 'Ibo' stock.". Their impression is that the entire South African female population is what we have seen in the house. AND that we (me and you) intelligently know THAT cannot be true.

This does not excuse the South African bloggers(dajazzy, boogy-babe) who also participated in the whole mess and replied to the comments. They also fuelled the situation by stereotyping the Nigerian people and ensured what could have been left unsaid and was uncompletely unneccesary was all there for everyone to see. I have also taken offence to what they said as it did not make the situation any better and they could have just not typed those comments. Like Mahatma Ghandi is quoted "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"

I have read your emails, PMS and comments (a couple of times) and noted that you believe that I am the cause of the hatred that spewed on my blog from people i don't personally know and who have their own issues. They responded on their individual capacity on what the other one said without even addressing what my article was about. I would really like to know how I insulted a whole nation when I commented about a big brother show and an individual whom I did not find entertaining winning, same as every other year I have followed the show.

I gave my opinion on Kevin's win because I wanted Nkenna or Edward to win! Just like the years before when I crucified Richard because I wanted Ofunneka to win, I berated Tawana for her loose ways, rooted and voted for Hazel to win and completely defamed Ricco as a thief. None of those African countrymen came on my blog to insult other countries, take the entire angle of my article and personalise it and got involved in a cyber-war. I have followers from all over Africa on my blog and most restrain themselves when they read my blogs because I do not attack the entire nation but the individual on my TV. I have done the same with Kevin's win and have to apologise? Sorry, I simply refuse to make exceptions!

I have a complete dislike of how a show that initially taught us a lot about Africa and united Africa when Cherise won, was taken over by Nigerian bureaucracy when Ofunneka was handled by Richard.  The show was censored and killed by the involvement of a single government when the entire Africa also has housemates that are crucified by other African countries.

I am happy to hear that even some Nigerians complained. Even though it was to no avail. As GROOVY comment "If a few Nigerians, wanted bba censored, mnet might have well refused so the grievance should be with mnet not Nigeria. A lot of people I know including myself were gutted when it was censored and most Nigerian papers wrote asking for the whole package back but it fell on deaf ears, so why blame all of us". If my comments seem to insuniate that I blame the entire Nigerian population, it is not so - I blame the governement that got involved not the nation and the people.

When Nigeria gets bad press for their housemate, it is taken as personal attacks but other countries take the beat-down and do not request apologies for their housemates because the show is an entertainment show and the housemates are individuals not a complete reflection of the entire population.

I have expressed this view before and am still of the view that as soon as Nigerian bureaucracy steps off the Big Brother Africa show, the censorship is taken away, viewers are allowed to control their decoders with the parental control and the show comes back as we initially saw it - whether the housemate is a saint or not, warts and all, we see it - there will be no boundries and Africa will unite as it did in the first Big Brother Africa.
OR else Multichoice and Endemol can find and fund another show that does not put African countries against each other as it only divides us further.

Lastly, MY fellow bloggers (those who loyally follow my blog, reply or silently blog and somehow landed on my blog by accident), WE NEED TO BE THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE... If we keep such anger and hatred in ourselves and hold vigils for world peace and Africa unite but don't believe in it, it will never be... Africa will never unite until Africans declutter their minds and see each other as human beings first (obviously not always perfect) and accept each other.

PEACE! OUT!
