On 3rd Degree this Tuesday:

Episode Title: Shoot to Kill: Casualties of War
Broadcast date: 9 February 2010

Teaser ...

The police have declared war on crime. But as the battle rages, civilians are paying a dreadful price.

The national police chief has said the police should not die with their guns in their pockets but instead, ‘shoot to kill at criminals’. His views have been endorsed by the president of the country.

But does this gung-ho attitude help - or harm - the very people it’s meant to protect?

Is fighting fire with fire effective, if the public is forced to dodge bullets aimed at criminals? Are police sufficiently trained to distinguish friend from foe?

3rd Degree investigates the senseless deaths of innocent teenagers, who died in a hail of bullets.

3rd Degree is on e.tv at 21h30.

Eish this MUST be stopped. The other day a policeman stopped us at night we were scared to stop because of the fake policemen who hijack people.  But we had to stop because of the fear of SHOOT TO KILL and the guy stopped us for nothing but we were treated like criminals

Ja they could have said that we were running away and they thought we had guns. That time we would be dead and can't talk for ourselves

3rd Degree investigates the senseless deaths of innocent teenagers, who died in a hail of bullets.
Is it senseless death or collateral death? What about doing the same with the senseless death of policemen/women. Oh I forgot! ETV is sleeping in the same bed with criminals hence they try to project the police as bad as they can.

if the public is forced to dodge bullets aimed at criminals?
What about the bullets that are aimed at the police. Are the public not supposed to dodge those?

So true realist. I am really getting tired of Ms Patta's theatrics really. Good objective stories are becoming a thing of the past on 3rd degree but for some odd reason I still watch every episode.

Evening Everyone

The reality is not all the cops are reckless and power hungry, I would say that there are some great cops in this country however and this is a big however, they form a small minority of the police force. The truth is some cops don't even know how to clean a gun, if that the case which it is!!! then  it's safe to say that most  cops are not capable of discerning the guidlines of section 49. Many of  cops work for the next pay cheque and it's not a calling. Being a cop is a calling!!!!!!

Its just sad that there is these cases of innocent souls being killed maara i gotta admit that ever since this "shoot-to-kill" thingie was introduced more and more criminals have been killed and they are even scared of the police now...

For all this unfortunate cases, its just recklessness from some S.A.P.S members and they need to be investigated thorougly and brought to book...

All in all i think they doing great and i have seen criminals that were killed by police last yr in my hood.. I was very proud of the S.A.P.S.. 5 thugs who made people's lives hell down!!

They need to only shoot to kill @ people shooting them NOT just anyone

@realist

I like your objectivity

how about they do a story on how many innocent people have been killed by criminals trying to shoot the police or them criminals killing people

I am a huge fan of 3rd Degree but have to admit that it's losing it's touch by always wanting to prove that the ANC government is not fit to govern.  There was nothing spectacular about last night's show, it's the same reporting that has been reported a number of times on e-News.

Anyway watched Special Assignment and i was so touched and saddened by what the families of the frug mules go through.  Tjo Cwele and them ought to be ashamed of themselves, indeed the drug syndicate is bigger than we thought, having watched that i somehow think that Jackie Selebi was so so corrupt, it's not even funny.  Can you believe he refused to sign the treaty that states that should a South African be arrested especially for drug related cases overseas then that person should be extradited.  Haai kanti Jackie knew all along why....
