Fruits of the spirit 1 of 10

Happy new year all. Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank God for all He has done for you, your families and me, during the festive season. He is a good God and let all the glory be unto Him.

I was busy reading and this is what I came across. It was so spot on and I thought I should share it with you, I felt that we could all learn from this.

Ever wonder why sometimes in your life certain things you want changed, never actually change? Though I knew the Lord and often times my walk with Him was not that of one to be proud of. Yet there was no peace of mind, no real positive outlook. And I mean this kind of void went on for years. It was one of those kind of, you mght say " Flu Bugs " that just seemed to hang on. At my best description of it, I guess you could call it a " Dark Cloud " that just followed me around for what seemed almost 1/2 of my life. Till one day a close friend of mine said to me “If that is not working for you why don't you change it or get rid of the part that no longer works for you!”

Year after year I kept trying to use my old remedies, hoping things in my life would turn around. Sadly things actually got worse. Simple as it sounds, It was the hardest thing I would ever face, or even attempt to work on for that matter. But you see, all these years I was going about it the wrong way. Absolutely wrong about how to work on changing who and what I was. Till one day I read Galatians Chapter 5:22 through 26. There it told me of this fruitage of Gods " Spirit " and how I could apply each one to my life one by one by one. I found in doing so that I no longer was working on changing me, I was actually allowing the Holy Spirit to work on me, to change me. Once you allow the Holy Spirit to work inside you, you begin to change. My friends, I hope that if your reading this, that my short story will somehow inspire you or aide you in your walk with the Lord. Every now and then we all need a helping hand from one another...

After reading this, it really made me think. What are the areas of my life that needs changing? I remember David’s prayer in Psalms 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me”

Now our job will be to get into the Word to find out exactly what it is God is going to want to change about us. We will need to find out exactly what qualities God will want us to try and "put on" into our personality and what qualities He will want us to try and "put away."
This article will be the first of a series of articles giving you all of the appropriate Scripture verses showing you exactly which qualities and attributes God will want to get worked into your personality and which qualities He will want to pull out of you.

And there is no better place to start this series of articles than with the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit. If you want to start off by keying on some of the more positive qualities that God would really like to get worked into your personality - really study and meditate on these specific 9 qualities.

Now here is the specific verse from Scripture where these 9 fruits are being given to us by the Lord:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." (Galatians 5:22)

So in my next article, I will expand more on each of these fruits so we can fully understand what each one of these fruits are all about and how they can dramatically change the quality of our lives and our state of well-being if we are willing to allow the Holy Spirit to start to work all 9 of these fruits into our mind, soul and personality.
Is there something that needs changing in your life?
Do you know how to go about it?

Stay Blessed.

Calvary greetings Bazalwane

Oh! it feels so good to be back, after being away for so long. It is really hard to believe that God does make a way where there seems to be no way. I was really depressed at the thought of not being able to come back to the homecell this year, due to a change in the company structure which forces me to take on a number of demanding, time consuming tasks, meaning that i will blog less, but you guys know, God's ways are higher than our ways,He made a way for me to come back, for that fact,I will always be eternally grateful.

Comment on FK's contribution: I am lost for words, what a great way to start the year (for the homecell), learning about the fruits of spirit is just what we need as the foundation of our faith this year, and it feels like she read my thoughts by creating a series of 1 topic, which will enable us to flow in the word and discuss the topic to it's fullest. Thank you FK.

Enjoy Guys!!

Saint Glory!!!

Cod and FK thank you so much for an uplifting article after a long break
We see God's grace even today when we blog here.

I am so overwhlemed by God's love when i take a look at my life from Nov last year.
I was not ok at all.

This year I never made resolutions but prayed that God help me be disciplined.  Disciplined in all areas of my life. I am really glad that this is wat I asked because it is part of the Fruit of the Spirit

My prayer is that I do not deviate from that because if I live a disciplined life, there is no way i will fail to please my Abba Father

Even though it is tough to live a holy and clean life these days.....GO MONATE GO PHOLOSWA

to know that my daddy loves me and everytime I cry he hears my cry, oh! what great love that is.

Guys dont ever forget that our father knows us by our names, not only are we his children, it is written in His word that he calls us FRIENDS!!!

I LOVE LOVING THIS MAN!!

God knows how much i missed you guys and your contributions.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." (Galatians 5:22) For me longsuffering is the hardest because i belive it produces patience and from there total rest in the promises that God said he would deliver.  I think it also goes hand in hand with persecution, can't wait to read them in more detail.

Stay blessed.

Wow bluerose - Funny enough, the first fruit of the Spirit we will be discussing is LOVE.  What is Love?  How does God show His love? How are we supposed to show LOVE.

I Love the Lord for He first Loved ME.  (Do I act it?)  Eish, go thata man.

My prayer is that I do not deviate from that because if I live a disciplined life, there is no way i will fail to please my Abba Father
 Amen to that bluerose

It is very true that change is impossible without the Holy Spirit so is being Fruitful ...

@BA - Matthew 7: 16 says - You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

What are these fruits?  As a christian, do I have these fruits?  When others look at my life, what do they see?

Do they see love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. or a total opposite of these?

Please God, have mercy on me!!!

We missed you too Mathaz - I know we have been cyber seeing each other but coming to the throne of God, is something else.

For me longsuffering is the hardest because i belive it produces patience and from there total rest in the promises that God said he would deliver.
@Mathaz - I think most of us battle with this.  Patience ........ Waiting and trusting that He will come through for us.  In most cases, it is not the waiting itself,  but it is HOW we react during that waiting.

"Those who wait UPON THE LORD shall be renewed their strength"

Pastor Richard O’Ffill, an author and speaker, writes:

A woman, driving her vehicle, was pulled over by a few squad cars, and, when the police came out, they had their guns drawn. The woman was shocked. What had she done?
“You were weaving in and out of traffic,” one officer said, “making obscene ges¬tures to other drivers and cursing them.”
“For that,” she replied, “you pull out your guns?”
“Well,” the officer said, “we saw the bumper sticker, which said you were a Christian, and we just assumed the car had been stolen.”

This silly story brings out an important point: Christians, by their very profession, are held up to a high moral standard. After all, look at the One whom they profess as their model, Jesus Christ.

How, then, should Christians live? How should we act in public and at home? The key is found in Galatians 5:22, 23, the subject of this quarter. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

What happens to those whose lives are surrendered to God and who thus allow the Holy Spirit to work in them. “ ‘That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit’ ” (John 3:6, NKJV). The fruit of the Spirit is what grows in us when we are born of the Spirit; it is what happens when we are born-again.

I have been coming here on Wednesdays for the home cell, I am glad it's back.
FK  I hope you will elaborate more on these Fruits of the Spirit, next week.
I think the Holy Spirit has given me the fruit that is peace, I have lost so many loved ones in recently but God has given me peace and understanding and sometimes people don't believe I am still standing. No matter what I am going through I have learnt to accept and keep running my race.

FK
24 Feb 2010 12:09

Welcome Honeypot

And yes, I will be elaborating on these next week.  Me and Cody have decided to tackle 1 fruit a week (will see how it goes) until we have covered all the fruits.

I'm dearly sorry to hear about your losses and I will by lying if I say I understand.  Only God understands, so take it to the Lord in prayer.

I have to thank God dearly for homecell because it edifies and appeals to me more than anything else that is supposed to edify me spiritually in my immediate surroundings. Im not sure why.
We discussed this topic about two weekes ago at our connect group and i was sooo distant i barely remmeber a word...YET I trully look forward to following the series now FK. This is just the spiritual remedy i need for my current situation. Which is a dangerous tendency to seek pracmatic resolutions to circumstances as opposed to Spiritual resolutions.

Wow FK thanks !!!

Last year Nov i was in a car aacident and almost Died but i didnt , i belive i still have a purpose here on Earth that is why God helped me through it.
When i was in Hospital ( for a Month ) wht helped me through was Love not just from friends and Family but from strangers those who used to blog on the BBA thingy were very supportive ,
and that kept me going thinking if someone who has never seen me takes time to send me aPm checkin on my progress wht more can one ask for from God.

Funny thing is i always prayed before i make a long journey , now i know that even if i am stepping out of the house I usher the holy spirit before me ,

Is there something that needs changing in your life? Yes now that i have developed a relationship with God i need to get rid of my anxiety i worry about little things a lot even if i know that the lord said " Do not worry about tomorow for tomorow will take care of its own " I need to pray and get rid of that anxiety

I believe we all know how powerful media is in influencing our lives. and our decisions.
Media is now promoting "instant" everything.
and we are falling in that trap. That is why longsuffering is such a pain in our lives as christians.

but i guess if we learn what to absorb only what is good for us from what the media throws to us, we can be a step closer to where God wants us to be.

I am failing in this one as well, but I will trust God to elevate me to a level where I can understand this better and eventually bear sweet tasting fruit.

As I am reading your responses I am taking an honest look at my life.
And I am shaking........I guess it is because I  see that God's Grace has brought me this far

lately I have been reading this scriptures and its like I get a new revelation of them each time I do. And I will make it a prayer in my heart that God help me that He wanted me to be, I want to please HIm so much, bathong

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. (1Thes 4v11-12)

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ (Phil1 v9-10)

Let us each find our purpose before it is too late and last but not least

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1Cor15v58)

Can I get an AMEN:)
