As Akua’s drama filled lobola got finalized last week – Woods bringing his butler and friend as the malome’s, Akua’s family asking for R100k (was it?) for lobola and the tantrum Woods threw being frustrated at the family’s aloofness… I still wonder how much Akua’s lobola was?
Alas, I digress… Akua and Woods discuss their future; he wants a small shindig, she wants the works – this is, after all, her first marriage (hopefully only) and she wants it to be what she has always dreamed of… even though we see later on that the dream was not that clear… He asks her for a date and finally they agree on exactly a month to get married – the 24th of the next month. A fast relationship, a fast wedding! He suggests she gets a wedding planner and run with everything – he’ll just pitch!
As the couple cozy up on the couch – Woods brings Akua’s AIDS test results and vows to get tested to. She asks him about having children and Wood is adamant he has 2 kids already and doesn’t want any more. Ooops! Robert is just eager to start his retirement relationship with her.
She ropes in her now best friend, Inno, to help her plan the big day. Inno has really changed from being the most unreliable friend to the bestest friend a girl needs - always there, supportive, unselfish, encouraging, honest & loving. Someone you know is genuinely there because she cares.
As they go through interviews looking for a wedding planner – the realization that Akua might just be a little ambitious at having a wedding ready in a couple of weeks. The wedding planners were hilarious and yah, they made me laugh so hard that I recalled Inno’s auditions a couple of weeks ago. Anyways, Akua asks Inno to step in as wedding planner for her.
Inno suggests Akua and woods consider pre-marital counseling when Akua discovers her future husband feels he has procreated enough and is not gonna have more kids cause "he's old" he says... So, does his age have to dash off Akua's needs to be a mother? Is this a fair trade? I think not. He married a young woman who also has dreams for a family of her own.
Inno standing up for Beth indirectly was my fave moment of the entire episode. Yah, this character has grown. As she accompanies Akua to church to meet with the Pastor about pre-marital counseling – the pastors mentioned that there was no “Adam and Steve” in the Bible. Akua giggled, Inno was not impressed! I was wondering that Inno was not happy at the comments or that the pastor kind of seemed taken with Akua while she was hoping for the attention –It felt like she was hitting on the pastor at some point.
Anyways, Inno let it slide and at the bible group she asked them what they meant. She stood up for her homosexual friends and I loved this scene. It was a small group but the message was clear – you can start small and teach people tolerance.
The girls meet up at the Woods’ residence for a chat and catch-up – Inno stops Lo in her quest to get sloshed, glasses fall as Akua fearfully screams “You will break Woods’ glasses!” Mhhhhh… I am starting to suspect that there is a lot Akua is not comfy with. She is about to marry the man. He is rich and might not even notice if there’s a glass or two that broke while his fiancé was entertaining friends…
Lo is still drinking but last night vowed to her mother to stop – We shall wait and see! Is Akua’s wedding going to happen or will she discover things about herself and her needs that force her to abandon the relationship? Will Inno continue going to church or is she gonna swop churches? Well, Beth’s life seems to returning to normal!
