Gen confusing me lately as if i'm watching soul city

Written by Lus from the blog Generations is becoming Soul City!! on 21 Apr 2010

I love Generations, i have been a fan for years now..
i used to watch and fantasise about the good, simple life people in the show lived.
I remember poeple & Media used to riducule the show saying they have no meaning for ordinary mzantsis.
This was the only show i can escape the real world where we wont talk about AIDS, abuse, lobola etc
I used to defend it and say why not , we really dont want every show on TV that is gonna teach us about these issues because almost every show on TV is doing that.

Suddenly my Generations is changing from the fantasy world i'm so inlove with to a programme like Soul City,Isidingo nad dont get me wrong these are perfect shows etc
I really dont like whats going on on my show why watch about woman abuse, alcohol abuse, swapping of partners,,,why?
Every time i watch Gensoul lately  its no longer about the beautiful people, clothes, houses, close knit families...
Mfundi i really feel like you are going to lose a lot of loyal viewers as you really are not sticking to your target market  where we dont want to watch real issues , we have no show to escape to anymore simply beacuse you decided to be an educational programe without considering us.
The reason you didnt win any important award this year is because you have forgetten about the loyal fans and wanted to impress and compete with real life issues shows.
Bring on the fantasy world, the gossip, the clothes, the vindictive Ntsiki's of those times, the feeling of having everything easy....
Is the anyone OUT THERE who agrees with me that  Gen is becoming as soulfoul as ever?

it's funny that they are tackling Alchohol abuse but they have J&B products all over and Amstel plastered all over MaRubzana'z tarven..... talk about contradicting yourself!

Interesting Lus - just last week someone was telling me they feel the same about Isidingo and all the eating disorders that have been going on - that it's all too much with no escapism.

I think it comes down to what a soapie's supposed to be - I know shows like Isidingo have always dealt with "issues" but this should mostly be left to the drama series so that soapies give us a lighter fix at the end of a long day.

@Tizoz, me thinks they is a thin line between abusing alcohol and drinking it .... Sibusiso was abusing alcohol, aboSenzo,Jason and others, they drink alcohol ... you can see the difference from what consequences of their drinking. I believe the show is trying to cater for everyone, the fact that there are poeple who are able to control their drinking are those who are controlled by their drinking ....

that's why they will always be Rubby's and Tsalanang and everywhere where we see alcohol ..

Mina i say big up to Generation i just love the angle they have taken to tackle these issues ...

Yes BA, I like the issues the Gen is tackling. SOme of us have been in abusive relationships and you feel the stress that you caused the people who love you through Rethabile and Sbari.

Dineo and Paul is something that many people are going through. I feel that only now can I relate to the issues tsa gen.

I agree with u Lus...Generations must just stick to comedy...that's why some of us r being forced by our spouses to watch it...a good laugh. Why else would a show called 'Generations' not have any stable family(which was meant to be the Morokas) with a family empire and the 'generations' of Morokas to fight ova the fortune. I love the male bashing that goes on in the show...it has no noble, good working, loving, uncorrupt man...ok maybe Khaphela...but who wants to grow up to be like Khaphela.

I like Generations...like City ses' la...they write their script on a week by week basis...no long term story lines...which is different and refreshing for a soapie.

I dont think it is confusing at all, The story line about Dumi & Khethi is a reality, Dumi is educated and has a good career but very abusive at home, we tend to think that educated pple are not abusive but they are. The Moroka house hold is empty and i feel that they have to bring in more of them, may be Archie's long lost son or daughter or someone who is a Moroka by blood you know to look ou for Karabo, azobetha uPaul for lying. I like Mam Ruby's story line as well, where they are not all employed at the media cos.

If Generations is a soapy then it should not in any way dwell into stories that resemble real life.  Back in the day when Karabo used to be on drugs and Ntsiki was the villain, it used to captivate coz we were not used to black women on drugs and for Ntsiki to wiled so much power over men nogal!!  I agree with the writer, real life depiction of stories should be left for vo Soul City and them not a soapy.

Blackie i dont want them to agree with me, i want them to focus on the issue at hand not telling us wht to do or not, if you catch my drift.
The issue  here is do you agree or not? not telling poeple that they like to complain and telling usthey wont  comment . Genererations is a soapie and we have a right to raise issues that concerns us like the writer did, it is called soapie review /critics in case any of them never heard of that...

I like the angle ye Generations, maybe it's because I know a couple of people who are in the same position as Khethiwe and I am praying that they see themselves in her.

Now Isidingo is another story all together...bullies for 2 weeks...WTF?
