Episode Title: The Tricky Issue Of Race - Part 2
Broadcast date: 1 June 2010
Teaser ...Facebook and YouTube heave with racial anger and tension.
South African youth use these social networking sites to vent their frustration over social ills like lack of jobs, education and health facilities. And they blame it all on race.
In Soweto, youngsters hold “blacks only” meetings to discuss the “black condition”. They believe whites are still privileged, that the majority of black people are oppressed.
White youths seethe with anger - they perceive affirmative action as racism in reverse.
Though they share common problems, race keeps these two groups apart.
Ironically, they all see themselves as victims of the rainbow nation, rather than its beneficiaries. This is the second part of a two part series on race which ultimately aims to explore the question: can we ever find a guiding principle or purpose to unite us?
