It's been a while since
Zinzile Zungu and
Siyabonga Shibe have appeared on our screens and in case anyone was wondering what had happened to them - they've turned up as (kinda) brother and sister on e.tv's
Scandal!.
Her continuity presenting for SABC3 aside, Zinzi hasn't done any serious screen acting since playing Nomzamo in
the first season of the show in 2006, before
Ayanda Ngubane took over.
Siya last appeared in the second season of
A Place Called Home but has already built an impressive TV resume with roles in
Gaz'lam,
Stokvel,
Generations,
Bay of Plenty,
Mtunzini.com and
Isidingo, among others.
The two are re-entering the world of the small screen as step-brother and -sister (no blood relation) on Scandal!, in a three-way relationship with Daniel that smacks of ... well ... scandal.
Here's the lowdown on their new characters:
Zinzi Zungu plays Thokozile Thoko has a matric education – but from a rural school in KZN. She earns intermittent money by doing piece work – basic cleaning work which she gets from friends/connections.
Thoko is someone who wants to get ahead. She wants to be a businesswoman, but she lacks the planning skills to put this into practice.
She increasingly finds herself in situations where she practises "transactional sex", i.e. sex for gifts/favours. She's not a fulltime prostitute, but certainly makes a bit on the side from the sex trade.
She is close to her brother, Kila, as he protects her and looks out for her. She doesn't necessarily let him in on how she receives certain gifts, however – cellphones and the like.
Both her and Kila are poised to embark on long-term relationships with Daniel – in different ways. Thoko is going to pose as Daniel's nurse and embark on a short term "transactional sexual relationship" with him.
Siyabonga Shibe plays KilaKila came to Hillbrow and got work as a taxi driver. He then saved money and managed to buy his own taxi. He has aspirations of owning a taxi fleet one day.
He is smart, resourceful, shrewd and can be violent. He is streetwise as opposed to intellectual.
Kila is poised to embark on a long-term relationship with Daniel. He and Thokozile tell Daniel that they are brother and sister. Actually, they are step brother and sister.
However, Thoko embarks on her "transactional sexual relationship" with Daniel – which Kila thinks is fine in the short term, as he wants a relationship with Daniel and thinks Thoko is his way in, so to speak.
However, down the line he will become increasingly jealous and possessive of their relationship.
Scandalous enough for you? Look out for Zinzi and Siya this month.
