Special Assignment this Tuesday (31 August, 2010):
Scary stories about kids accessing pornography on their mobile phones and the internet are circulating in the press. Now the government wants to do something about it - in the form of a proposed law banning all internet porn. But will this help our democracy? Or kill it?
Special Assignment producer Cobus van Staden takes a look at the proposed law and the effects it could have on internet access and free speech in South Africa.
Speaking to both supporters and opponents of the proposed law, the program outlines the implications of the bill and offers advice to parents worried about what their children get up to online.
The episode also takes a look at the Christian NGOs behind the proposed law to ask: what is their agenda? Who supports them? Why do they have such sway with prominent politicians?
Special Assignment is on SABC3 on Tuesdays at 20h31.
