Special Assignment tonight (Tuesday, 7 September 2010):
Episode Title: Hard To Swallow
Date: 7 September 2010
In April this year Special Assignment broadcast Flight 223: a story about the increasing drug trade from Brazil which has affected the lives of hundreds of South African families whose loved ones have been caught-up in the illegal drug trade.
Soon after this, a distraught Eastern Cape family contacted the show - they'd been searching for their missing daughter for months and found out that she was being held in a Brazilian jail on drug charges - as result of watching Flight 223. They didn't know this is where she was before.
They urged Special Assignment to find out more about their daughter’s mysterious disappearance, arrest and long-term incarceration in Brazil.
In tonight's episode Special Assignment goes into Brazil. The show tracks her movements before her arrest and brings exclusive footage of the jail where she is being held.
The episode also travels to the Eastern Cape to speak to her family. They tell about the horror of learning about their daughter’s involvement in the murky world of drug trafficking. Also, how it's affected her two young children and what impact it has had on the family in general.
The show also attempts to find out who is behind the heinous crime that cost her her freedom and almost claimed her life.
The show also speaks to the Brazilian police and the African Consul General to find out about the family’s chances of succeeding in their efforts to bring their daughter back home.
Hard To Swallow is Produced by Frank Ferro.
Special Assignment is on SABC3 on Tuesdays at 20h31.
