Disney's TRON: LEGACY Sneak preview 21 October - AMAZING

TRON: Legacy is the much-hyped sequel to the 1982 film TRON, which generated a huge cult following, especially since it was the first film to genuinely use futuristic special effects and marked the beginning of the genre.

Although it didn’t do so well at the box office, it remained in the hearts, souls and minds of film-goers and, nearly 30 years later, Walt Disney have pumped money into the production and reinvigorated the film into something quite special – dare I even say, epic…

The 8 minutes shown at Sandton Ster Kinekor in Johannesburg on Thursday 21 October was well worth the 1 ½ hours of stand-still traffic (typical Joburg)!

The clip started with newcomer Garret Hedlund (playing Sam Flynn), landing in a dark, immersive and stormy world that is, especially in 3D, absolutely mesmerising. He is captured by what looks like henchmen of some higher power and sent down into a shaft, where he kitted up by cyber-babes into the flashiest gear I have seen on film.

A large door opens and he enters a Coliseum-like arena, surrounded by figures and is quickly thrown into a fight for his life. There are martial arts, high-end graphics and action of the highest degree.

The clip ends there and goes into a montage of quick-cuts, showing Jeff Bridges (Sam’s father, Kevin), Michael Sheen (porcelain white hair and very dastardly-like) and the gorgeous Olivia Wilde (those figure-hugging suits were made for her!) and oh, the coolest motor bikes ever to hit the screen!

A futuristic world, stand-out SFX (a feat in today’s saturated market), the flashiest gear, sexiest heroes and vixens, the coolest vehicles and gadgets – TRON: Legacy certainly looks like its living up to the hype.

TRON: Legacy is released in South Africa on 31 December and will also be shown in 3D.

Don’t forget! International TRON Day is 28 October 2010 at 7PM and 20 minutes of the film will be shown for free to the public – after checking out these 8 minutes, I’ve already booked my seat! The venues: JHB - Santon City Ster Kinekor, Pretoria - Menlyn Nu Metro, KZN - Ster Kinekor Gateway, Cape Town - Canal Walk Nu Metro.
