Months passed while the show and series writers sweated to work out how they were going to handle the news and next thing, Karabo's ex-squeeze Tau Mogale (
Rapulana Seiphemo) turned up, out of the blue: first as a vision, then as Alive, then on SABC1's new reality show
Ambush.
Once Karabo got over her OMG/bathong's at Tau's return, he popped two questions. He asked her to marry him, then he told her that he wants them to emigrate to London so that he can take up a position at a snooty advertising agency.
She said: "Yes," to both (obviously thinking of him getting paid in pounds).
According to Generations head writer Christian Blomkamp, the reason for it all is because: "I wanted to honour the character and honour the actress in the best possible way so we didn't want a death or a crazy psycho story - we wanted a positive image.
I didn't think it was enough that she just sailed off into the sunset alone. The thing with Karabo, throughout her career, the thing she was searching for was the one man that she could live happily ever after with. All she ever wanted is to have a man she could settle down with.
It didn't make her weaker, not that she's anti-feminist, but she needed that to compliment her, that relationship. So we thought: 'Okay, we'll give her a happy-ever-after with a man, and then we decided which man would be the most plausible and the one that she belonged with for the rest of her life.'"
Will Karabo and Tau ever return? The storyline's going to be left open so that they can - but there are no plans for it in the future.
New characters are going to be introduced once Karabo leaves. There's also going to be Impact on those who stay. More from Christian about this: "It's going to mean that other characters will move up in their careers, there's a whole shift in Ezweni and some dreams will be fulfilled with her exit.
There's going to be a whole change in the Ezweni structure. Also because of her leaving and the uncertainty round their agency, it creates an opportunity for the rival agency to start taking advantage of their weaknesses."
One of the biggest impacts so far has been on
Sophie Ndaba, who's spent the week looking a mess. First Queen had a girlcrush meltdown with Karabo, then she revealed that she has tons of unspoken issues with Tau, while measuring him for his wedding suit:
He disappears for four years, suddenly pitches up and wouldn't even choose the ring she wanted for Karabo.
While Queen and Angela have been involved in planning the rush-rush wedding for Friday, Connie's been trying to explain to everyone why she's leaving.
But is this really what's going to happen??
The latest rumour doing gossipville is that Connie's going to be launching a new talk show. We haven't heard a confirm on this but it's the sort of thing you could imagine being true.
Three more episodes remain. On Thursday, Queen goes through an emotional collapse and on Friday ....
.... Karabo and Tau share their final onscreen kiss to hook up for forever.
