Special Assignment this week (Tuesday, 9 November 2010):
Episode Title: Positive Ladies Soccer Club
Date: 9 November 2010
Teaser ...Special Assignment goes into the heart of rural Zimbabwe where rural women living with HIV/AIDS fight poverty and stigmatization on a daily basis.
Of the 1, 6-million Zimbabweans with HIV, 55% are women. Some statistics say that 40% of all those infected are unaware of their status and that there are 2 000 HIV-related deaths in Zimbabwe every week.
In addition, about 25% of children in Zimbabwe are orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS-related deaths.
In the face of these grim statistics, it becomes difficult to remember that living with HIV means exactly that - living. This documentary shows how a group of HIV+ women took control over their lives and their health - through playing soccer.
Positive Ladies Soccer Club introduces an initiative by rural women who are fighting for recognition and against stigmatization.
The documentary is produced by the Doctors Without Borders.
Special Assignment is on SABC3 on Tuesdays at 20h31.
