Episode Title: Bling

Teaser ...

khanyi_mbau_large

A culture of splurging has taken root in South Africa. Obscene amounts of money are spent on expensive cars, flashy jewellery and designer clothes, which are all then shown off at the trendiest spots. Being seen to be rich is everything.

Many of the new elite live the bling lifestyle, throw parties costing many hundreds of thousands of rands and fill their garages with collections of luxury vehicles.

But in a country where there is such a huge gap between rich and poor, union leaders call this spending a spit in the face of the poor.

This week Debora Patta speaks to the self-proclaimed queen of bling Khanyi Mbau, to get some insight into this culture of careless spending. And we count down the top five South African blingers.

3rd Degree asks: Is the new bling culture corrupting our values?

3rd Degree is on e.tv on Tuesdays at 21h30.

I simply cannot believe the hogwash this girl is saying with a stone face.... and she thinks she is giving Debra as Debra gives, but she is just spewing valueless gabage. #UNbelievable. Proof that just because someone can string a sentence it doesn't mean they will say anything of any value.
I usually refuse to entertain any article that has anything to say about her, just had to let this one out.

Something thought-worthy i got out of the show though is,
1. The "Role Model" element , .......
2. And the "spitting in the face of the poor element...especially regarding that Zuma/Aurora guy who bought a million rands worth car whilst the miners(his employees) have gone many moons without their salaries at the very least.

GA i will wait for Maki's wrap up but our point of views differ totally in this case.i concur with her fully when she says she is not here to save the world.besides what one considers as hard earned may not be the same as the next person's.

Cnglema....i get what you are saying on the differing view point;). Where Khanyi is standing Its a question of "to each his own" i guess and so indeed what gives me and Debra the moral high ground to judge?,i get that. Sadly as much as i wanna try to disagree without passing judgement, it slips bcos the negative impacts of what and who she is resonates louder than anything else to me.

Hoping im wont tread way above the judgement line, let me put it this way; I am bothered bcos someone whose view point doesn't edify young minds is being given an opportunity to  "plant" her objectionable "seed" and perspectives on a national platform, perspectives that don't edify the impressionable young ones ... and there is atleast one vulnarable  too many young ones who will take her literally (she did say the barbie doll thing is a facade, she has a real business plan behind all that)...and that poor soul will take her literally to their detriment, and we will have one extra broken person in society etc etc.
She is just being herself accepting this invitatrion to do what she does best i dont expect her to turn them invites down. I am dissapointed in 3rd degree that they wasted airtime purposelessly like that on her....unless i missed the punchline of the whole thing.

No airhead indeed! are you having a laugh!?. Taking people to her father's farm and having her croissant with blue cheese. Granted the girl can express herself but honestly. When she said that she is not trying to be a role model and Debora asked her about the R35 000 she gets and what anyone can learn from her. Motivational talks, really!

Maybe i'm slow, but what was the point of that interview... @ it ended so abruptly and was nt sure what was supposed to have been achieved...

I may not approve of  her way of doing things mar All credit to Khanyi.. she clear abt what she is doing... what she wants, and hell she is going for it

Hay' shame the gal can talk and uyayimela indaba yakhe. She said it straight that she will never date a broke ass n!gg@. She has goals and ambitions and if she wants that car she will make sure she gets it - thats her ambition.

i didnt see the need for the interview. as for khanyi and them i dont see anything wrong with they life style. kenny kunene and khanyi why should they be questioned on who they should spend or flaunt the money. as for the poor guys come on know we all live based on the decisions we take. i for second wont stop having my favourite food and think for the poor people. we do play our part in the community mara will never stop partying and entertain ourself because of that never shame. other people are lazy to work and stand do something about they lives..... ANYBODY WHO IS GOT A PROBLEM WITH KENNY KUNENE AND KHANYI MUST JUST GO HAVE LIFE..... I LOVE THEM AND THEY LIFESTYLE *PERIOD*

VusiK

I wonder if MsWhite still sees no problem with Khanyi's lifestyle ...
and
I wonder if the result of the upcoming lawsuit Kunene is facing will still keep her position steadfast ....

besides

All these people who claim bling only do so to create a lot of noise ....
and
we all know what kind of vessels create really loud noises!!!
