Forgive & Forget this Tuesday (30 November 2010):
For many of us an older sibling is a figure who guides and protects us. But in this week's episode we meet a young man who for the longest time needed to be protected from his own brother.
Abuse and harassment turned his home - supposedly a place of refuge - into a daily hell.
We assume that boys play rough. The old rhyme, girls are ‘sugar and spice’ while boys are ‘frogs and snails’ gives an indication of how society conventionally views boys and girls.
We expect scrapes and bruises and even a few fights from boys, seeing it as a natural part of growing up, especially when it comes to brothers.
Except that the brotherly bond is stronger than the occasional scuffle and no matter what, they’ll still have each other’s best interest at heart.
This is the relationship Gert and Herman should have had, but instead Herman suffered years of continuous abuse under his older brother Gert. It was more than just rough play, but mental and physical abuse that could have possibly scarred Herman for the rest of his life.
Now, Gert’s trying to turn his life around and has entered rehab to kick his drug habit, but he also wants to repair his broken relationship with Herman.
To earn Herman’s forgiveness, Gert has to convince him that he’s a changed man and ready to be the older brother Herman always needed. Will Herman forgive him?
Forgive & Forget is on e.tv on Tuesdays at 21h00.
