The ListenerPremiere date: Saturday, 22 January 2011 at 20h15
New episodes broadcast weekly.
A supernatural drama that centres round Toby Logan (Craig Olejnik), The Listener.
A charismatic 20-something, Toby is a lone wolf whose external cool masks a difficult past and a secret. He is a telepath. He can tune in on the current thoughts of those around them. He has lived with this ability, sometimes a gift, sometimes a curse, for his whole life.
He keeps it a closely guarded secret, knowing full well that if it were to become public knowledge, he would become a scientific oddity and a public freak.
He tries to live his life as any guy his age might, pursuing women, fun, and a career that captivates him. In Toby’s case, this has led him to be a paramedic. The adrenalin rush of racing to a situation that could well be life or death is undeniable. What’s more, it points to a deep-seated urge -– unrecognized even by Toby - to do something, to help, to make a difference.
Then one night, while off-duty and out on the town, Toby is hit by a monumental blast of psychic energy out of the blue. It’s a desperate cry, a distress beacon, a plea for help Toby cannot deny.
Except he does his best to do just that; the experience disturbs him and could be a mental aberration as much as a signal from the real world. But then he starts to match the mental images that assaulted his psyche with concrete facts - and real people - in the real world.
No matter how much he might wish to turn his back, he knows the situation is grave, someone is in desperate need of help and only he can provide it. Using his telepathic abilities in a frantic race against the clock, he’s able to unravel the mystery and save a life.
He’s shaken by the power of the gift he’s buried. And even more shaken by the knowledge he can bury it no longer. And so his life changes forever.
