A new Disney channel titled Disney XD went live on DStv this morning (12 May), on channel 304, on DStv Premium and Compact.
The channel is a spin-off of the Disney channel (303) and is themed round action series and movies, both live and animinated. Aimed primarily at boys, it features a combination of favourite Disney shows and movies as well as new titles.
The launch of it will be followed by the introduction of another Disney channel on 1 June: Disney Junior, which caters to younger children. This will be available on channel 309.
Here's a rundown of some of the titles on Disney XD, premiering today for the debut:
Zeke And Luther
A comedy series about fearless sidewalk surfers and best friends Zeke and Luther who put their right foot forward to master the art form of skateboarding.
Pair Of Kings
This series follows 16-year-old fraternal twins Brady and Boomer, played Mitchel Musso (of Phineas and Ferb) and Doc Shaw (The Suite Life on Deck). The pair live a typical teenage life in Chicago, until they receive the unexpected news that they must suddenly relocate to the Island of Kinkow as the rightful heirs to the throne.
I'm In The Band
A rock musical comedy that centres round Tripp Campbell who joins his favourite “vintage” rock band Iron Weasel, in an attempt to help the band he idolises make a big comeback. However, he has his work cut out for him.
The trio of ageing rock stars have fallen so far from fame that they can’t even afford housing, and are forced to live in Tripp’s spare room.
In their own somewhat unorthodox way, the trio do their best to guide Tripp through his teenage years, aiming to turn him into a bona fide rock star.
Kick Buttowski
A 2D animated comedy series about an extraordinary kid determined to become the world’s greatest daredevil. Small in stature, but big in heart, Kick takes on stunts with unwavering enthusiasm. Aided by his loyal sidekick, Gunther, Kick rebels against the mundane and knows that when life throws him an obstacle, his only choice is to jump it.
Phineas and Ferb
The animated series about step-brothers Phineas and Ferb who take their dreams to extremes by building a gigantic roller coaster in their backyard, among other escapades.
They always end up cramping the style of their teenage sister, Candace, who attempts to rat them out to their mum, only she's somehow left with no evidence to bust her brothers.
Meanwhile, the family's simple-minded pet platypus, Perry, leads a double life as a secret agent and faces off with the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz in each episode.
