There are some entertaining, boring, interesting, dull, good and bad television shows. These are my favourite television shows at the moment.
8. WWE Raw
Yes it sometimes does have some unbelievable storylines and sometimes lacks some realism, but I reckon it's one of the toughest acting formats out there. By that I mean that the wrestlers fight in the middle of tens of thousands of people, there are no second-takes, and they still have to remain in character, and do some the craziest fighting stunts ever.
7. Everybody Hates Chris
Created by possibly the most successful comedian in the world, it is certainly one of the best comedies in the world. Unlike most comedians who act in their comedies, Chris Rock doesn’t act in it, but rather narrates it. Another thing that makes it unique is the absenteeism of a laugh track. I generally prefer comedies without a laugh track, as it comes on as rather 'natural'.
6. Late Nite News
The most entertaining half-hour of a Wednesday night, this show leaves you in stitches to last you a whole rod. I really would love it if they could extend it to one hour. David Kibuuka, Loyiso Gola and Riaad Moosa are just top-notch entertainers.
5. Prison Break
Pity it only lasted for four seasons, as it had one of the best storylines and twists ever. The third season writers must be complimented as it was my favourite season, with the whole Sona prison setting. I’m one of the many who still pray for a fifth season.
4. Club 808
Arguably the best music show on free-to-air channels, Club 808 is one of the shows I look out to every Friday evening. My favourite segment is the Youtube countdown and the Fuse mix.
3. Isidingo
Isidingo and Rhythm City are the best soapies at the moment in SA. I'm one of those who believe that the show will increase its ratings if changed to another timeslot.
2. Two and a Half Men
This is my favourite comedy at the moment. The chemistry between Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones is just unbelievable. Overall it’s a great comedy series, and I reckon even with the whole Charlie Sheen drama, it still will remain on top.
1. Rhythm City
Who can ever forget the infamous 2010 storylines: Naomi kidnapping storyline and David/Franco storyline. Most people still remember where they were and what they were doing the day Franco Genaro arrived at the reading of the will. Unlike popular soapies like Generations, which used to be the best soapie in the country, Rhythm City has been loyal to their fans, having the most creative writers, and sometimes using some of the rather unbelievable storylines and turning them into the best storylines.
Those are the shows that keep me glued to the screen. What are your favourites?
