Favourite television shows

There are some entertaining, boring, interesting, dull, good and bad television shows. These are my favourite television shows at the moment.

8. WWE Raw

Yes it sometimes does have some unbelievable storylines and sometimes lacks some realism, but I reckon it's one of the toughest acting formats out there. By that I mean that the wrestlers fight in the middle of tens of thousands of people, there are no second-takes, and they still have to remain in character, and do some the craziest fighting stunts ever.

7. Everybody Hates Chris

Created by possibly the most successful comedian in the world, it is certainly one of the best comedies in the world. Unlike most comedians who act in their comedies, Chris Rock doesn’t act in it, but rather narrates it. Another thing that makes it unique is the absenteeism of a laugh track. I generally prefer comedies without a laugh track, as it comes on as rather 'natural'.

6. Late Nite News

The most entertaining half-hour of a Wednesday night, this show leaves you in stitches to last you a whole rod. I really would love it if they could extend it to one hour. David Kibuuka, Loyiso Gola and Riaad Moosa are just top-notch entertainers.

5. Prison Break

Pity it only lasted for four seasons, as it had one of the best storylines and twists ever. The third season writers must be complimented as it was my favourite season, with the whole Sona prison setting. I’m one of the many who still pray for a fifth season.

4. Club 808

Arguably the best music show on free-to-air channels, Club 808 is one of the shows I look out to every Friday evening. My favourite segment is the Youtube countdown and the Fuse mix.

3. Isidingo

Isidingo and Rhythm City are the best soapies at the moment in SA. I'm one of those who believe that the show will increase its ratings if changed to another timeslot.

2. Two and a Half Men

This is my favourite comedy at the moment. The chemistry between Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones is just unbelievable. Overall it’s a great comedy series, and I reckon even with the whole Charlie Sheen drama, it still will remain on top.

1. Rhythm City

Who can ever forget the infamous 2010 storylines: Naomi kidnapping storyline and David/Franco storyline. Most people still remember where they were and what they were doing the day Franco Genaro arrived at the reading of the will. Unlike popular soapies like Generations, which used to be the best soapie in the country, Rhythm City has been loyal to their fans, having the most creative writers, and sometimes using some of the rather unbelievable storylines and turning them into the best storylines.

Those are the shows that keep me glued to the screen. What are your favourites?

People always say Isidingo this and that, but the ratings sing a different tune, but it is my #1 too, too good that Benjamin guy can act shoooooo.....

The General
23 May 2011 09:40

Isidingo at 8pm, and Generations' ratings would sink. There's too much competition at 6.30pm

zvee
23 May 2011 09:45

@The General I'm with u 100%, the 8pm time slot will do justice to Generations bcoz uMfundi ucinga that his soapie is the best meanwhile there is no competion 4 him during that time... ISIDINGO SHOULD MOVE TO THE LATE TIMESLOT.

The General
23 May 2011 09:55

But seriously they should do something about Generations, go to any social network, twitter, facebook, and anywhere where Gen is discussed and all you find is people bashing it. I reckon the 4 million people watching it just watch to actually make fun of it. Just go to twitter at 8.30pm and type #generations and you will be amazed...

How many people Two and a Half Men?

The General
23 May 2011 12:10

@makisto some of us don't have DStv. Club 808 should be extended to an hour, cause their segments end up looking too short. Any comments on Gauteng Maboneng?

I'm not into wrestling & my mom is, so i would moan during its play and my mom would say " u r forgetting that this is my house meaning my rules, go to ur room and watch whateva u want from there bcoz i want wrestling" forgetting that DSTV only connected 2 the 1 tv in the tv room and the cord is not long enough to do justice to us.. She will sit there while we want to watch other channels from DSTV... WWE has got old (aging) & small fans but mna i dont watch it sheim.

The General
23 May 2011 12:32

I still love WWE, and yesterday's Extreme Rules PPV was just the best PPV of 2011. On Gauteng Maboneng it doesn't do for me, I feel like they tryin' too much. And the jokes are sometimes basic.

Maki....WWE Raw
Is this show still on TV?..
. I found myself laughing out loud and the new guy at the office and looked at me and shook his head. Its still on but since it became a Talk Show i stopped watching, there are too many talks. Its acting yes, my family love it but i just do other things if its on.

I love Isidingo just that, i get home late and forget to watch the omnibus on Sundays

RC killed it for me when they brought Dave from the dead, i know that Dave will always win and that Miles is sitlayela, Lulu wants all the man on RC, so why do i have to watch.

Prison Break......i like a lot and that Club 808 and the Everybody hates Chris,

Generations.....0% from me, i dont want to lose my eye sight and my hearing becoz of the ol same ol same story lines.

It seems Isidingo is the best programme on tv, but then why are the ratings so low? Or are the ratings false?

poshspice
24 May 2011 11:58

Are the ratings not based on the channel's overall viewership, SABC programmes are bound to have high ratings becasue the majority of SA viewers watch SABC 1, not because they are necessarily good...

SABC 3 target audience is a certain LSM (those in the know pls elaborate) that is actually a minority...

@General I love reality shows, Guillian and Bill, Jesylicious, Idols, America's Dance Crew, BridalPlasty, Tough Love, BB, Holly's World, ' I dislike Kendra, love the apprentice etc

I guess most of us at one stage were fascinated by the Wrestling, I've outgrown it..

Bridal Plasty: Style Channel DSTV...

I enjoy the backstabbing, conniving, manipulation and just to watch the lenght women go to to be 'perfect' I mean these procedures are painful..and women are absessed about having a perfect nose WTF and their hubby's to be don't give a hoot, they think they are beautiful as they are...bt they still go ahead, ohkay some need it..

the show is about brides competing against each other to win a wedding and holiday of their dream but the ultimate prize for them is to win the plastic surgery of their dream. They draw a list of the procedures they would like done (nose, boob, liposuction etc). each episode brides compete on challenges and the winning bride chooses a procedure to do as a reward, ticking one off her list, the lucky or competitive ones get to do more than one from their list, while others leave without the dream wedding not even one procedure..

Tough Love---DSTV cant remember the channel

It is some kind of boot camp for single women who are struggling with dating and keeping a man. SO this young man who is the host give them different challenges or put them in different dating scenarios and give them feedback on where they went wrong in dealing with dates...

Some feedback would be some women give out too much info on the first date, other tend to highlight their weak points or talk about their exes and don't market themselved positively, don't pay attention to detail and listen as this is where you figure out whether the man is suitable for you
