Coming up on Carte Blanche this Sunday (4 March, 2012):

Rhino in Crisis

All around the country top conservationists and scientific minds are applying themselves to one question: how to stop the decimation of the Southern White Rhino.

Two months into the year, unofficial figures put the rhino death toll at 77 - moving ever closer to extinction. While some insist legalising the trade is the only solution, others warn that this will push the demand to unprecedented levels.

This week, Carte Blanche asks if it’s time to consider a radical solution to a radical problem.

Producers: Amalia Christoforou & Wynand Grobler
Presenter: Derek Watts

Eskom 2012

Fuel’s going up again soon and the price of electricity is set to rise in April - the third hike since 2010. But exactly where is our money being spent and what’s being done to bolster our power reserves? Carte Blanche sheds light on the matter.

Producer: Susan Puren
Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Journalists: Wynand Grobler & Susan Comrie

Building Blunders

Log homes are aesthetically appealing and conjure up rustic and romantic images in the minds of prospective owners. But there’s always a conman in the woodwork to knock a hole in your dreams ... in this case, a Pretoria-based builder who has taken plenty of money, but provided little in return. Even worse, he’s been doing it for years. Carte Blanche nails him down.

Producer: Bernadette Cook
Presenter: Derek Watts

419 Heartbreakers

Most of us have figured out that transferring money into an unknown bank account to gain access to a small fortune is a big con.

Now those behind these dodgy emails seem to have moved on to more sophisticated scams that not only try to bankrupt their victims, but break their hearts as well. Carte Blanche lures an online Romeo.

Producer: Nguni Productions
Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender

Carte Blanche is on M-Net and M-Net HD on Sundays at 19h00.
