Idols 8: Crunch time
Who Will Be The Next Idol?
It’s crunch time for Khaya Mthethwa and Melissa Allison, the Top 2 contestants in Idols SA Season 8.
This week Sunday's Spectacular Show is their last chance to garner votes from the voting public with their onstage performances.
On Tuesday, 2 October we will know who will reign supreme as South Africa's next Idol.
Khaya and Melissa are each performing three songs this week, including one each with backing from the Drakensberg Boys Choir as well as their brand new singles that will be available for download from Sunday night.
Khaya is singing the Otis Redding classic “Try A Little Tenderness”, R. Kelly’s “I Am The World’s Greatest” with a little help from the Drakensberg Boys Choir, and his brand new single, “Move”.
Melissa's songs are “Gabriel”, from Joe Goddard, the Aretha Franklin/Annie Lennox hit “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves” with the Drakensberg Boys Choir, plus her new single: “I Could Spend A Lifetime”.
But there’s still a lot more entertainment lined up for the final Spectacular of the season. Melissa and Khaya will get another chance to perform when they sing the Jordin Sparks/Chris Brown hit “No Air” with the Samsung Band, and the rest of the Top 10 will return to the Idols stage to perform Danny K’s anthem “Shout” with him.
The Idols Season 8 Top 2 Spectacular is recorded at the Mosaïek Teatro in Fairland, Johannesburg, on Friday, 28 September, and airs on M-Net and M-Net HD and Mzansi Magic on Sunday, 30 September, at 17:30.
To campaign for votes and meet many of the fans who have supported them along their road to fame, the Khaya and Melissa will be visiting shopping centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town after Friday's recording.
On Saturday they'll be performing at Cresta Shopping Centre in Randburg at 11:00am. Thereafter you can catch them in action at Southgate Mall at 13:00 and then it's off to the Westgate Shopping Centre in Roodepoort, where they will be entertaining the crowds from 15:00.
On Sunday, it's Cape Town's turn to meet the Top 2. Fans can catch them on stage at Canal Walk Shopping Centre at 12 noon. This will also be Idols' first visit to the Mother City since the auditions earlier this year.
