Strange things are happening - things that go bump in the night - or even in broad daylight, things that could be living or dead, or neither or both … and these things are coming to a suburb near you. So we say: “Be afraid, be very afraid,” - or, be prepared to confront them.
Zombie Season 2012 is open. And, if you can’t beat them, then join them!
The Halloween Zombie Walk, now in its sixth successful year, is the perfect meeting place for Zombies of all shapes, sizes and colours - so long as they’re blood-drenched.
Organised by the Empire Tattoo Parlour based in Fairland, Gauteng, the Zombies gather outside the West Park Cemetery gates from 15:00 on Halloween (Wednesday, 31 October). From there, they limp up the hill in their crazed state into the streets of Melville and end the walk at Stones (7 Main Rd, Melville). But, the walk is all for a good cause.
All donations received by the organisers from the Zombie-like participants, local businesses and others, are handed over to Marang House. Based in Northcliff, it is a safe haven for many of Gauteng’s seriously ill children, who are waiting for or recovering from operations such as kidney transplants or who suffer from diabetes.
The organisation’s mission statement is: “To provide South Africa’s seriously ill children from disadvantaged backgrounds with a stable home environment that enhances their likelihood of full recovery and improves the chance of fulfilling their dreams”.
If the Zombie in you is dying to come out, let the creative juices flow as you transform yourself into a crazed creature and join the walk. More information is available on the Zombie Walk 2012 Facebook page - a link:

With “The Walking Dead” merchandise such as DVD box sets and t-shirts as give-aways and prizes for the bloodiest Zombies on the block, there is only one place you have to be this Halloween – outside West Park Cemetery! And, as the new series’ pay-off line likes to remind us: “Fight the dead, fear the living ”…
