Gareth plays the voice of Ducky in an episode coming up on Disney XD (DStv, Channel 304). The episode's called Tri-State Treasure: Boot of Secrets and airs on Saturday, 16 March at 09h45.
As you'll know if you're a Phineas and Ferb fan, the show often asks schlebs to lend their voices to characters so they asked Gareth to be Ducky - it's the first voice-over performance he's ever done so we'll have to see whether he pulls it off with #EpicZing or an #EpicFail.
What does Gareth have to say about it? Here's a catch-up with him ...
What was it about the character and series that made you want to sign up?Gareth: When I was initially approached, I saw the list of people who had previously been involved with Phineas and Ferb across the world – I was amazed at how many high-profile stars were involved from Jonathan Ross to David Beckham, and I thought well, if they want me, then yeah!
David Beckham recently starred in Phineas and Ferb, did you catch any parts of his episode and is that another reason you wanted to sign up? Gareth: Yes, I saw it recently - and I thought he was very, very good - very entertaining. He sounded really, really nice in the recording too. He sounded very professional (Does David Beckham impression).
Which character do you most associate with - Phineas, Ferb or Perry?Gareth: Perry - Secret Agent P! He is so cool. When I go to sleep at night I always imagine that I am going to wake up as a superhero or a secret agent. It never happens, but it’s worth trying.
Cartoons are loved by people of all ages all around the world. What, in your opinion, is it about cartoons and cartoon characters that unite so many different people?Gareth: I think the reason that Phineas and Ferb is so internationally popular and has accumulated all the awards that it has, because it’s really cute, fun and clever. It’s also really interesting and unique stuff to watch. In addition, it’s got a dry sense of humour - like me!
The show is not just enjoyed by kids, but adults too - it leads us older viewers into that fantasy realm - you get to live through these characters who you love, these characters are doing and saying things that you would never be able to in real life.
