Joyous Celebration brings world-class Gospel to Mzansi Magic Music

South Africa’s most successful gospel ensemble, Joyous Celebration, is set to bring its award-winning gospel music to Mzansi Magic Music in a breathtaking special titled Joyous Celebration Rewind Vol. 1 on Sunday, 24 March at 19h00.

The Joyous Celebration Rewind Vol. 1 special takes the ensemble back to its roots, close to 20 years after the group first formed as a way to showcase South Africa’s diverse and ever-growing gospel talent.

The group, which recorded its 17th album in December 2012, takes viewers down memory lane, making for a nostalgic and spiritual journey for all fans of this remarkable South African success story.

Recorded before a live audience at the spectacular Teatro at Monte Casino in November 2011, the Joyous Celebration choir was joined by a revolving door of top-notch gospel artists and musical talent on the night. Among these were Khaya Mthethwa (the 2012 SA Idols winner), Asanda Bam and Innocent Modima.

A highlight is undoubtedly the performance by Thabo Mdluli and his wife Nonhlanhla Mdluli of a number of Joyous Celebration classics – including “Beula Land”, “Centre Of My Joy”, “Izethembiso, Siliwelile” and “Phindukhulume”.

Joyous Celebration founding member and co-director of the choir Pastor Mthunzi Namba provided another high point, through a medley of favourites – among them “Lord I Can Feel”, “Glory”, “The Blood Of Jesus”, “UJesu Wam” and “Kanye Nawe”.

Adding to the fire of the live performance was a performance by co-founder, Pastor Jabu Hlongwane who got the audience in a spiritual frenzy with his medley of American spirituals - “This Little Light,” “Never Give Up”, and “Up Above My Head” along with all-time favourite, “Vuso Wakho”.
