Tropika Island of Treasure 5 ends on SABC1 this Saturday (20 April) with a season finale that also marks the end of the show as it's currently named.
The relationship between the series Island of Treasure and Tropika is officially over. Earlier today the show released a carefully worded statement about the relationship between the two coming to an end and made sure to clarify that the show will go on for a Season 6 which will be filmed in Seychelles.
There was no word on why their relationship has fizzled out like a flat fruit juice so I've been speculating and came up with these possible reasons. Most probable to me are:
1) The Oscar/Reeva tragedy that hit the show for Season 5. The heat of it all was very possibly too hot for Tropika to quench so they decided they never want to be associated with so much
controversy ever again.
2) The increasing scale of the show might have gotten too expensive and the commitment too much. First it was an advertorial-type insert, then a half-hour show and now it's a full hour. The costs have obviously increased hugely and Tropika wants to stay a fruit juice brand instead of a TV producer. They'd have to sell a
lot of juice as a result of the show for it to serve the purpose it used to.
3) After five years they very possibly thought enough is enough!
Whatever the reason the show will have another sponsor for the Seychelles. Let's hope it's not
Handy Andy.
