M-Net spreads the magic with two new channels
Enter Mzansi Wethu and M-Net Movies Zone!
M-Net is adding two more channels to its formidable family of entertainment channels on Tuesday, 7 May.
Mzansi Wethu and M-Net Movies Zone will welcome new viewers to the magic of pay-television on the newly-launched
DStv Access package. The channels will also be available on DStv Family, DStv Compact and DStv Premium.
Mzansi Wethu is a hearty new general entertainment channel featuring an array of locally-produced content that includes sitcoms, Lokshin Bioskop movies, game shows, reality fare and a brand-new studio-based soap, filmed in the popular Lokshin style.
The programming will be a mix of brand-new content and popular shows that created a buzz on M-Net’s Local Interest Channels before.
Mzansi Wethu viewers will see why shows like Top Shayela, Nonhle Goes to Hollywood, Inkaba and Running with the Reps were the talk of the town when they were screened on Vuzu, Channel O and Mzansi Magic, respectively. But on top of that, they can enjoy the latest vernacular Mzansi Magic treats with
simulcasts.
Among these new programmes are the fun-filled game shows Ka-Ching; the dating show Nguwe Na; and the two talent shows Cula Sibone and Bounce, which focus on musical talent and dance moves, respectively.
More exciting news is that both Mzansi Magic and Mzansi Wethu will showcase the brand-new Lokshin soap, Zabalaza, which tells the story of the struggling Cele clan.
This daily story stars well-known actors such as Seputla Sebogodi, Baby Cele, Thami Afrika, Matli Mohapeloa and Khanya Mkhangisa. It will be broadcast Mondays to Fridays at 21:00.
As the channel grows, Mzansi Wethu will inspire its own exclusive content. The first of these shows exclusive to Mzansi Wethu is My Perfect Wedding .
Presented by Thuli Thabethe, this wedding reality show gets up close and personal with 12 unique couples across South Africa. Their dream is to pull off a perfect wedding, even when the odds aren't always in their favour.
“We are proud to introduce Mzansi Wethu to the pay-television scene and we are delighted that it is available on an affordable package,” says Yolisa Phahle, M-Net Director: Local Interest Channels. “Mzansi Wethu authentically reflects the day-to-day reality of many South Africans and we trust that viewers will love all the new vernacular programming and other not-to-be-missed shows. Our fantastic content can now reach a much wider audience and this can only be good for the local television industry.”
While Mzansi Wethu will occupy channel 163 on DStv, M-Net Movies Zone will bring uninterrupted movie magic to channel 139.
M-Net Movies Zone is the latest addition to the now nine M-Net Movie channels, renowned for their rich and diverse range of enthralling movie content. This new 24/7 channel gives viewers who haven’t had access to pay-television before the opportunity to experience great stories the way they were intended to be told – uninterrupted, without ad breaks. M-Net Movies Zone will screen movies in all genres – from comedy to drama and special treats for fans of action fare.
“It’s all about great stars, great stories and great movies,” explains Pierre Cloete, Director: M-Net and M-Net Movies. “And it’s great to know that the DStv Access audience, who have only been exposed to watching movies on television with ads inbetween, will now be able to enjoy a story from beginning to end, in true movie magic style.”
The channel kicks off with great international content featuring screen favourites such as Queen Latifah, Gabrielle Union, Morris Chestnut, and many more.
In addition to DStv Access, M-Net Movies Zone will also be available to DStv Premium and Compact subscribers.
